School Teacher Uses Nothing But Chalk and Blackboard To Create Breathtaking Works of Art
As a student, I always dreaded getting called on to finish an equation on the blackboard. My handwriting was clumsy, and writing on a vertical surface always proved difficult for me.
If you had a similar experience in school, this teacher’s skill with chalk will definitely impress you.
Zhao Wenrui of northern China has a gift for artistry. As an art teacher at Bin He Primary School, he has access to a wide blackboard in his classroom.
When 30-year-old Zhao isn’t using the blackboard to teach his students, he uses it as a canvas for gorgeous artwork.
According to Newsflare, Zhao says that chalk is capable of a lot more than we tend to give it credit for. With just a few pieces of colorful chalk, the teacher can create gorgeous landscapes with incredible detail, dimension and depth.
Zhao’s artwork often resembles traditional Chinese landscape paintings. He’s been known to dabble in Western-style artwork as well.
The students adore the art that Zhao draws and look forward to seeing it in classrooms all over the school. A video of Zhao creating his artwork has gone viral on Chinese social media.
In the video, Zhao draws a rough sketch of his landscape in white chalk before painstakingly filling in the details with eye-catching color.
The results are so realistic, it’s hard to believe they could be created with an ordinary piece of chalk.
The landscapes Zhao draws range from a field of blooming cherry blossom trees to a village at dusk framed by mountains and low-hanging clouds.
“I often think about how to make a painting when I lie on the bed to sleep at night,” Zhao told CGTN. “And when I have an idea, I often get up at five or six in the morning and hurry to school and start drawing. One time, I kept drawing from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m.”
Each of the drawings are so detailed that they take about two weeks each to finish. He even takes the time to draw the art in teacher’s offices for faculty to enjoy.
“I’ve also found kids of different grades all like me,” Zhao said. “I hope to show them a new way for artistic expression and help enhance their aesthetic ability.”
It’s amazing what you can do with an everyday object like chalk if you have the patience and talent!
