Conservative Comedian Gets the Last Laugh After School Cancels His Show
When the Brooklyn Music School booked comedian Owen Benjamin, they knew he was conservative. He makes no secret of it.
They swore to him that the gig wouldn’t be canceled, in spite of the fact that the the Brooklyn Music School doesn’t exactly draw the same kind of student body as Hillsdale College, being located in New York City’s hippest and most obnoxious borough.
It was canceled.
At this point, you probably figured Benjamin — a frequent guest on Anthony Cumia and Steven Crowder’s shows, among other conservative outlets — would throw a fit at the Brooklyn College of Music and the leftist snowflakes who presumably pressured the institute of higher learning into canceling the event.
Instead, according to The Daily Wire, he remembered four words that every conservative should remember: The market will solve.
Benjamin didn’t have a whole lot of time to come up with an alternative. His contract with the the Brooklyn College of Music had a stipulation that the university could cancel up to 24 hours before the event. They canceled right before that 24-hour deadline.
Benjamin said that he could have been “freaking out.” But, he had a YouTube channel with 91,000 subscribers and a desire to perform in New York City.
So, he left things in the hands of the free market.
“Now this is the strategy. The worst thing we can do is act crazy,” Benjamin said during a YouTube livestream.
“We need another venue that seats 260. … This is the Brooklyn School of Music who won’t let someone who can play Bach by ear perform there because of my political stance that half of America agrees with. Do you understand that? Let that sink in.”
Just in case you were wondering what those political stances are, well…

For the record, Bill Clinton vetoed that last proposal during his time in office. Point is, Benjamin is a rarity among comics these days — he’s actually unafraid to say what’s on his mind. Imagine that.
Anyway, not only did they get a new venue, they actually had one with a bar, which, you know, is a good thing for the performer’s take-home pay and the audience’s enjoyment alike.

Made it to the venue! Everything worked out and I really appreciate all the help from the #unbearables especially @HyperShaya who literally has an MMA studio on reserve to do the show in case we got kicked out. Lesson learned! Now, time to say funny things!

So, in the end, an art school that didn’t particularly believe art involves free speech proved just how well capitalism works.
