What Secret Service Agents Did After Barbara Died Shows What They Really Thought of Her

Share

When former first lady Barbara Bush died last week at the age of 92, tributes of all sorts poured in from around the country and the globe.

However, one of the most touching tributes came from the Secret Service agents who were responsible for keeping Bush safe.

According to KTRK-TV, even after the woman they were charged with protecting had passed away, they still stayed by her side — protecting her even in death.

“Standing on either side of Barbara Bush’s casket were members of the United States Secret Service. They are part of her personal detail, a satellite of the former president’s team,” KTRK reported.

“They are honored to stand watch.”

“Agents on her detail, they’re the ones posted around her house all of the time,” said former Secret Service agent Thom Bolsch, who was part of the Bush detail.

“They’re the ones who bring her shopping. They’re the ones who bring her to events. They are family to her.

“She was one of the most gracious people we’ve ever protected. She went out of her way to make us feel like part of the Bush family,” he added.

“It was just a wonderful relationship we had.”

And the Secret Service agents were with her as she made her final journey, too. Two of them were present in the hearse as her casket was carried from Houston to her final resting place in College Station, Texas.

It isn’t just a duty for these agents, either.

“They are family to her,” Bolch said.

Bush’s funeral was held Saturday. Fox News says an estimated 1,500 people were at her funeral.

Bush was an amazing individual and first lady. She will be greatly missed, even though she lived to the ripe old age of 92.

What these Secret Service agents did is proof of the kind of respect and admiration that she engendered.
