Watch: When Asked to Apologize to Hillary, Injured Comey Goes After Her Instead
James Comey might owe the United States of America an apology, but he’s not giving one to Hillary Clinton.
During a book promotion trip in Germany on Tuesday, the former FBI director who was fired by President Donald Trump last May, was offered a chance to apologize to Clinton for investigating her use of a private email server as secretary of state.
The normally soft-spoken Comey practically shouted – for him, anyway — “No!”
The question arose, of course, because the Justice Department Inspector General’s report released last week showed that Comey was also guilty of using a personal email system for material connected to work. That drew a Twitter posting from Clinton that must have stung Comey badly.

“I don’t want to criticize her, but it shows me that even at this late date, she doesn’t understand what the investigation in her case was about,” Comey said.
“It was not about her use of a personal email system,” Comey said. “And she didn’t get that during the investigation, ‘cause she used to say, ‘Colin Powell, when he was secretary of state, used AOL.'”
Clinton email investigation, he said, “was about communicating about classified topics on that system. When those topics have to be done a classified system, which she never did.”
“It would have been a problem if she was using AOL or Gmail or Clinton.com, or the State Department’s unclass system…”
Maybe so, but there’s a key element missing here.
Comey’s either deliberately lying to defend Hillary Clinton, or he’s been taken in by her to a degree that should disgrace the law enforcement agency he used to head.
Can anyone seriously believe that Hillary Clinton, veteran of the 1990s impeachment wars, former United States senator from New York state, two-time candidate for the Democrat nomination for president and former secretary of state for the United States did not understand what she was under investigation for?
The valedictorian of Wellesley College in the Class of ’69 might never have been an honest woman, but she’s also never been a stupid woman.
She understood exactly what the FBI’s investigation was about. Just like she understood that the whole thing was a sham, filled with investigators rooting for her to win the presidency, and dripping with bias against her opponent.
Comey might pretend he doesn’t understand that. Heck, he might not even understand that himself.
But Hillary Clinton knew what she’d done. She knew what she was being investigated for.
And the only thing that stopped her from getting away with it was Donald J. Trump.
