NY Gang Members Apologize Not for Machete Murder, but for Killing Wrong Target
A New York City gang apologized for the murder of a 15-year-old boy Saturday, claiming they had mistakenly butchered him with machetes after confusing him with someone else.
Lesandro Guzman-Feliz was murdered Wednesday by members of the Trinitarios, a Dominican street gang operating in NYC.
His sister and mother began receiving Facebook messages from gang members apologizing for the murder Saturday, saying “(w)e had the wrong person,” the New York Daily News reported.
Police said the intended target was likely a teen boy who appeared in a sex tape circulating locally on social media and looked like Guzman-Feliz.
“He has never been in any fight, never, in 15 years,” the boy’s mother, Leandra Feliz, said.
“He was innocent. He never grew up on the streets. He was with me all the time … a little kid, alone with no weapon.
Feliz told reporters that her son’s dream was to become a police officer.
The boy was already a member of the Explorers, a New York City Police Department program that connects high school-aged kids with police officers for mentoring.
Police arrested six men in connection with the killing, and a “JusticeForJunior” hashtag exploded over Twitter once surveillance footage emerged. The oldest suspect was 24.

The sex tape that reportedly spurred the murder showed a teenage boy rapping while another teen boy had sex with a girl whose face is covered.
Police believe the gang members mistook Guzman-Feliz for one of the teens in the video.
