Reporters Wonder Why Trumpers Hate Media, Then Make Fun of Their Teeth
Talking heads in the mainstream media were completely dumbfounded the night Donald Trump was elected president. Within minutes, their confusion turned into anger and hasn’t subsided in the year and a half since.
While the brunt of their disdain is directed at the president himself, another target receives a heavy dose of condescension and contempt.
Trump supporters are frequently characterized in the media as backwards, racist, horrible human beings.
Hillary Clinton herself let her true feelings slip on the campaign trail when she called Trump supporters “deplorables.”
“You know, to just be grossly generalistic, you could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables. Right?” Clinton said. “The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic — you name it. And unfortunately there are people like that. And he has lifted them up.”
Three months after her comments, those “deplorables” — who now wear the title as a badge of honor — defied everyone’s predictions and elected Trump. They were tired of being disparaged, looked down on and belittled by the left and the media.
Yet somehow, the media still seems baffled when Trump supporters openly oppose them. Instead of evaluating their biased reporting, they blame the president for stoking the flames of his supporters’ anger.
CNN’s Jim Acosta, one of the president’s most vocal detractors, faced this opposition Monday during a Trump rally in Tampa, Florida.
While inside the stadium reporting on the event, he was met with jeers and chants of “CNN sucks!”
He posted his experience to Twitter, calling it a “sad scene.”
In response, Politico reporter Marc Caputo tweeted what can only be described as tone-deaf.
“If you put everyone’s mouths together in this video, you’d get a full set of teeth,” Caputo tweeted, implying that Trump supporters are toothless bumpkins.
Caputo was immediately met with numerous responses pointing out the utter stupidity of his comment, as it’s both untrue and counterproductive.
“Atta boy, Marc,” wrote one Twitter user. “That will convince them the media is not against them.”
“That’s the way. Sneer at them. That’ll get them to vote the way you want them to vote,” wrote another.
Caputo later deleted and apologized for the tweet, but his feelings were already made quite clear.
As this treatment from media figures continues, they’re putting themselves in a position to be baffled once again when deplorables come out in droves for the next election and re-elect someone who doesn’t treat them like trash.
