Chick-fil-A Breaks Their Own Rule, Opens on Sunday for Hurricane Evacuees

Share

Even if you deplore chicken, nuggets or sandwiches, it’s hard to deny that Chick-fil-A is a class act as far as fast food establishments go.

Well, unless you’re an anti-Christian far-leftist. But then your problems likely run much deeper than unfounded disdain for a fast food joint.

Founded in 1946 by S. Truett Cathy, Chick-fil-A has always been rooted in its founder’s strong Christian beliefs.

They’re so committed to Cathy’s vision that the restaurant has become known for the fact that they are typically closed on Sundays, both as an observance of the Biblical Sabbath and to ensure the restaurant’s workers have a stronger work-life balance.

While everyone knows that the restaurant isn’t open on Sundays, not nearly as many people know that the restaurant’s corporate offices have given permission for Sunday openings in exceptional cases.

Well, cases don’t get much more exceptional than a hurricane razing entire communities.

Tropical Storm Florence, having since been downgraded from a hurricane, ravaged swathes of communities in North Carolina. One of the communities that was hit hard was Garner.

Donovan and Nikki Carless, franchise Chick-fil-A owners in Garner, felt compelled to act and help out while watching the destruction of Florence according to KTVD-TV.

“What can we do to help?” they asked themselves.

Do you think Chick-fil-A is an incredible company?

The answer, turns out, was to fill people’s stomachs with some top-notch chicken sandwiches and nuggets.

Donovan reportedly reached out to his team with the idea of serving people on a Sunday, and his employees were so ecstatic they couldn’t wait to help out.

That, in and of itself, is exemplary of the type of character and work ethic Chick-fil-A employs. That’s a testament to the company for keeping moral standards high despite rapid expansion.

Donovan was able to coordinate with Red Cross and were able to bring hot food to three different evacuation shelters.

The final tally totaled 500 chicken sandwiches and 1,200 chicken nuggets.

Not satisfied with idly organizing the outreach, Donovan and Nikki actually personally delivered all of the nuggets themselves to a shelter in Kmart.

For the life of me, I will never understand the ceaseless disdain for Chick-fil-A. Taking all possible political and religious affiliations out of the equation, the company still does incredible good when it’s needed most.

That should always be celebrated.
