Watch: Trump Critic Tears Acosta a New One for Getting Physical With WH Intern
Fox News anchor and political commentator Chris Wallace has been a vocal critic of President Donald Trump, both before and during his time in office.
However, Wednesday’s incident between Trump and the media had Wallace on Trump’s side for a change, with Wallace saying CNN’s Jim Acosta had “embarrassed himself.”
As reported by Grabien, Wallace on Wednesday joined Fox News host Harris Faulkner to discuss Trump’s news conference following the midterm elections. Inevitably, the conversation turned to the altercation involving CNN’s White House correspondent.
During the news conference, Acosta quarelled with Trump during a question, after which Acosta struggled for control of the microphone when a White House aide attempted to pass it to another reporter.
“This was an extraordinary performance, but it was classic Trump,” Wallace commented. “You saw all the notes that he can play.”
“He was combative at times, he got into a fight with Jim Acosta of CNN. I have to say, I thought Acosta’s behavior was shameful,” Wallace added.
“Have you seen the video with that woman? It’s tough to watch,” Faulkner asked, referring to the way Acosta tussled with the female aide who was trying to do her job during the news conference.
“Yeah, I was watching it live when it happened and he just refused to sit down and stop answering questions,” Wallace said.
“I’ve never seen anything like it — I covered the White House with Ronald Reagan for six years.”

Wallace went on to talk about Trump reaching out to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, who’s looking to return as speaker of the House when Democrats resume control of the chamber in January. Wallace called Trump’s peacemaking behavior an “olive branch” to Pelosi.
However, in summing up the news conference, Wallace had to go back again to Acosta’s behavior.
“But also the tenor of the news conference, quite extraordinary,” Wallace said.
“Most of the people there were serious reporters asking serious questions, but Jim Acosta, I thought, embarrassed himself today.”
It’s hard not to agree with that judgment. Trump, at his own news conference, had every right to call on another reporter after Acosta’s typical aggressive grandiosity.
But Acosta’s display didn’t just show disrespect for the president. He again showed his lack of consideration for everyone else doing their jobs, as he disrespected the White House aide and wasted the time of all the other reporters.
It’s good to see that there are still some people like Wallace who, despite his personal opinion of the president, stands against this type of attention-seeking disruptive journalism.
