Establishment Media, Liberals Slam Melania for Doing Exactly What They Asked

Share

A significant aspect of the ideological left’s foray into identity politics — aside from disparaging white people at the expense of minorities — is a firm embrace of the radical feminist ideal which posits that all men are terrible and should be removed from power so that superior women can take over, whether that be in business or politics.

As such, the left routinely advocates for women to be strong and assertive toward men, to be unafraid to state their opinions or stake out positions — even to be “nasty” in doing so — if that is what is required.

Such a mindset is readily apparent when liberal women stand up in defiance of conservative and Republican men. Just look at how the women who have become part of the #Resistance to President Donald Trump have been heralded and placed on pedestals by the leftist media.

However, as with most “principled” stances on the left, the adoration and championing of strong and independent women comes with a big caveat and double standard, in that it really only applies to women on the left.

When women on the right act similarly in standing up to men in power, they are met with derisive jeers and disparaging commentary meant to belittle and crush them.

Election Coverage 2024

Case in point is first lady Melania Trump, who reportedly put her foot down on Tuesday and demanded that a high-ranking White House West Wing staffer — Deputy National Security Adviser Mira Ricardel — be removed from her post following conflicts with the first lady’s own East Wing staff.

One would be forgiven for assuming that the liberal media would be overjoyed that the first lady was standing up defiantly against the powerful men who run the White House — in this case, her own husband who is president, as well as Chief of Staff John Kelly — but that wasn’t what happened, according to a report from Newsbusters.

Instead, the three major broadcast networks — ABC, CBS and NBC — all seemed to hype the story to one extent or another on their evening newscasts as if it were entirely unprecedented for a first lady to get involved in West Wing matters and quite possibly one of the worst things to have ever occurred.

NBC was arguably the worst of the bunch; anchor Lester Holt reported the Melania Trump story at the top of his broadcast over the indisputably more important story of the deadly and devastating wildfires in California, which at least ABC and CBS had the good sense to cover first.

Are you tired of the double standards the media has applied to the first lady?

Holt breathlessly reported on the “unheard-of move” by the first lady to publicly call for the firing of “the object of her scorn,” which Holt insinuated was indicative of “a deeper White House power struggle.”

NBC White House correspondent Kristen Welker then reported on the first lady’s “unprecedented step” that was part of a supposed series of “significant clashes with the chief of staff” that could lead to Kelly’s imminent departure from the administration — something the media has been fervently wishing for since he first accepted the chief of staff position.

On ABC, host Jonathan Karl all but ignored concurrent rumors that Kelly and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen were about to be fired and instead spent the bulk of his time focused in on how the first lady was “asserting herself like never before” and interjecting herself in the affairs of the West Wing.

CBS was reportedly the least bad of the three, but even anchor Jeff Glor characterized the outspoken demand by the first lady as a “rare move” in White House history.

But Newsbusters pointed out that it was not at all unusual for first ladies to occasionally involve themselves in West Wing matters. Hillary Clinton, Barbara and Laura Bush, Nancy Reagan and, a bit further back, even Eleanor Roosevelt have had input in such decisions.

The outlet noted that even Abigail Adams — wife of second U.S. President John Adams — had a visible role in policy and politics.

Were the Trumps a Democratic first family, this wouldn’t have even been a story, or would have been heralded as a strong move by an independent woman displaying her own power as equal to or greater than that of the men who run the White House.

However, since the Trumps are Republican, she was disparaged, smeared and dismissed as a woman who forgot her place and overstepped her bounds and involved herself in matters that are above her, or some other such hypocritical nonsense they never would have said of a liberal woman.
