Trump Puts Aside Politics to Honor 41, CNN Panel Uses Opportunity to Attack Him
Liberals never like to let a good crisis go to waste.
And for CNN, that means never letting a national loss go by without taking the opportunity to bash President Donald Trump.
Case in point: While the Bush family acted with incredible grace toward Trump in regards to the funeral of former president George H.W. Bush, CNN did not follow suit.
Despite even admitting that the Bush family has been very appreciative of all Trump has done for the Bush family since the 41st president’s death, CNN special correspondent Jamie Gangel used a discussion on CNN’s “AC360” on Tuesday to engage in speculation and smear against Trump. She refused to give him any credit for following protocol or acting with kindness.
The topic was the visit Trump and first lady Melania Trump paid to Bush’s casket in the Capitol rotunda on Tuesday. For a CNN commentator, a solemn occasion like that is simply one more reason to mock the current president.
“I think he’s doing this because he feels he has to do it,” Gangel told Anderson Cooper. “And I’m also assuming that (White House Chief of Staff) General Kelly has had a big hand in it.
“I do know from the Bush family that they are very appreciative and think the White House has just bent over backwards, gone to great lengths, been extraordinarily helpful. That said, I can’t help but wonder if there was a thought bubble over Donald Trump’s head just now, what he was thinking as he stood there.”
It was then that Jeffrey Engel, director of Southern Methodist University’s Center for Presidential History chimed in: “I have to imagine he was thinking, ‘How much longer do I have to stand here?'”
Is CNN going to start putting a laugh track on all its panel discussions when former presidents die?
Is it any wonder CNN’s ratings are tanking and so many Americans don’t trust the network? In covering a former president’s funeral, rather than celebrate the life of a war hero and statesman, a CNN panel used its time to take swipes at the current president.
And that wasn’t even the end of it. The trash-talk continued throughout the segment.
Gangel went on with her speculative smearing.
“He had to be there. He did it,” she said. “I think it’s interesting he did it, because maybe he could have waited til the (service at the) National Cathedral. And then he saluted.
“It was somewhat theatrical in nature. I can’t imagine that this is very comfortable for him, these moments, and I think it’s going to be fascinating to watch the cathedral on Wednesday and how he interacts with these other presidents and how he sits there during these eulogies.”
So, Trump is bashed for paying his final respects while President Bush lay in state. If he had skipped it, would he have been bashed for that, as well?
Then he is bashed, as commander in chief, for saluting a war hero and former commander in chief, too. If he hadn’t done so, would he have also been bashed?
Everyone who follows American politics even slightly knows there’s no great love between Trump and the Bush family after the bitter 2016 primary fight. Yet Trump put that aside to honor his predecessor in the nation’s highest office, and all CNN can do is jeer.
Despite their tanking ratings and a growing cry nationwide to stop with the Trump-bashing and divisiveness, CNN continues to plow ahead, on-course.
Even funeral coverage of a former president and war hero won’t deter the network from its agenda.
Liberals never let a crisis go to waste.
