Awesome: Veteran and His Wife Donate Everything in Their House to Firefighters
After the deadly Camp Fire wildfire in California, a veteran and his wife decided to donate most of their possessions to firefighters who have lost their homes.
Kim Ringeisen and his wife, Annette, are moving to North Carolina but they are taking very few possessions with them. Instead, they are donating most of the household items from their Gilroy home to firefighters, according to KCRA-TV.
Ringeisen is a combat veteran with 15 years of search and rescue experience. He was a firsthand witness to the devastating effects of the wildfire in Paradise, California.
“I was searching about 100 homes in Paradise,” Ringeisen said. “I’m also a combat veteran, but this was unimaginable. We had to rewrite ways of doing things and figure out new ways to take care of what we need to take care of out there.”
The devastating Camp Fire wildfire claimed at least 86 lives and thousands more lost their homes.
Fortunately, many generous people, like the Ringeisen couple, have offered their own possessions to help victims.
“We didn’t lose our sentimental things. We didn’t lose something to a fire very abruptly. So, I think it’s good if we can donate everything we have,” Ringeisen said. “We’ll start over. They’re starting over. So, I think it’s going to be a good thing, a good memory for us in how we helped.”
Among the items being donated is a mountain bike, an iMac, multiple pieces of furtniture, and appliances.
The couple are also donating hand-made dolls made by Mrs. Ringeisen.
“We decided to donate all of our household goods to the firefighters. So this is all the things we have donated, including handmade dolls that my wife makes,” Ringeisen said.
“My husband spent many days involved in the recovery efforts, getting to know many of the people who were impacted and lost everything,” she wrote on Instagram. “There is not much I can do, but I decided to donate all dolls, toys, and knitted items that were in the store to the families that were left with nothing.”
There have been no shortage of touching stories in the aftermath of the devastating wildfire.
One family was reunited with their dog, who patiently waited for weeks, after being separated in the chaos of the wildfire.
In another touching moment, an elderly businessman donated thousands of dollars to students and teachers at Paradise High School.
These are the kinds of heartwarming stories that are missing from the media.
