Pelosi and Co. Taking 3-Day Weekend After Killing Gov't Worker Paycheck Measure

Share

The government shutdown is dragging on, but Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi doesn’t seem particularly bothered. Instead of staying in Washington to negotiate with the president, the liberal lawmaker has other plans: A three-day weekend for herself and other party members.

“House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has officially sent Democrats home for a three-day weekend as the government shutdown continues,” Townhall reported on Thursday. “Federal workers will miss a second paycheck tomorrow.”

The shutdown, of course, is being caused by an impasse between President Trump and Democrats. The left is refusing to budge on the president’s $5.7 billion dollar request for border wall funding — and even after he offered them a compromise, Democrats snapped his olive branch in half.

Public opinion is split on who to blame as many federal workers continue to miss their paychecks. But as Pelosi’s decision to go home for a long weekend shows, it’s Democrats who seem to be dragging their feet.

“For a *third* time, House Democrats have killed a GOP effort to pay federal workers during the shutdown,” explained Fox News contributor Guy Benson.

Former Navy SEAL-turned-Congressman Dan Crenshaw echoed this point over the last few days.

“House GOP voted to pay federal employees their 1st paycheck of 2019, despite shutdown. Only 6 Dems voted with us. It failed,” he wrote on Tuesday. “Dem priority is not paying workers or opening gov’t. It is opposing Trump.”

Crenshaw added an update on Wednesday to point out that Republicans had voted to pay federal workers for a third time… and again for a third time, Democrats voted against it with only six liberals dissenting.

That hasn’t stopped Nancy Pelosi from bizarrely blaming the GOP for a situation that by every measure, her own party is dragging out, even leaving the Capitol on Thursday for a comfy break back home.

“Democrats voted three times *against* getting them paid!” journalist Katie Pavlich reminded her on Twitter.

Trump himself weighed in on the issue again on Thursday, blasting Pelosi for tone-deafness on the shutdown that her own party could end overnight.

“Nancy just said she ‘just doesn’t understand why?’ Very simply, without a Wall it all doesn’t work,” he wrote.

“Our Country has a chance to greatly reduce Crime, Human Trafficking, Gangs and Drugs. Should have been done for decades. We will not Cave!” he pledged.

It seems clear that pressure is mounting against Pelosi to meet the president halfway instead of blaming others and flying back to California. Who is going to blink first? Only time will tell, but history suggests not underestimating the 45th president.
