Rep Wants To Know How Much Ammo Someone Really Needs, People's Answers Are Brilliant
Connecticut state Rep. Jillian Gilchrest is making headlines over her radical ammunition tax proposal.
The bill, HB-5700, would see a 50 percent tax slapped on ammo sales for no other reason than to make it harder to purchase. As Gilchrest imagines, it would work the same way prohibitive cigarette taxes do.
Gilchrest. a Democrat, uploaded a video of herself promoting the bill to Twitter, and took a smug swipe at citizens voicing their concerns over ammunition purchased for self-defense.
“I’m hearing push back about the need to protect one’s home,” Gilchrest wrote. “But how much ammunition does someone really need to do that?”
Spoken like a true authoritarian.

Predictably, Twitter users were not happy with this.
Many piled into the comments section of the video, scorching the anti-Second Amendment lawmaker for such an outlandish and stifling proposal.

And with ammo prices artificially inflated by 50 percent, this bill could put the hobby of shooting outside the affordable range for many.
I previously wrote about how this proposal could affect those living at or below the poverty line. As United States government statistics state, those below that level are more than twice as likely to become victims of violent crime.
With ammunition priced outside their means, the bill could leave poor mothers, elders, and women utterly defenseless.
Some responding to Gilchrest’s video had the same concerns.
So your law’s intent is to discriminate against the less fortunate and make it too expensive for them to purchase ammo to defend their family as is their constitutional right. Maybe we should charge you 50% more to allow u freedom to speak? All constitutional amendments are equal

Although garnering less than 2,000 “likes” on Twitter, Gilchrest’s post is racking up angry comments.
The post currently has over 22,000 replies, most of them outright rejecting the law and the thinking behind it.
With an outcry like this, Gilchrest may need to start worrying about future job security when it’s time for her re-election.
