CNN's Don Lemon Gives Weak Excuse for Ocasio-Cortez's Strange Accent at Black Event
CNN anchor Don Lemon gave a pathetic excuse for Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortex of New York after she used a different accent to speak to a predominantly black audience.
Ocasio-Cortez found herself embroiled in another controversy after she used a strange drawl during a speech Friday at the National Action Network Convention in New York.
“I’m proud to be a bartender,” the self-identified democratic socialist said. “Ain’t nothin’ wrong with that.
“There’s nothing wrong with working retail, folding clothes for other people to buy. There is nothing wrong with preparing the food that your neighbors will eat. There is nothing wrong with driving the buses that take your family to work.”

Imagine if a Republican representative adopted a strange accent when speaking to black audiences; the establishment media would be quick to point out that the accent is offensive and patronizing, and they’d be correct.
And we know how much the left-wing media like to slam others as “racist.”
However, Ocasio-Cortez is the left’s golden girl, and the media hacks at CNN wouldn’t think about acknowledging her faults.
On Friday, CNN’s Lemon went on Chris Cuomo’s show to defend Ocasio-Cortez’s newfound accent.
Lemon acknowledged she adopted a different way of speaking, but he described it as “code-switching.”
“It’s code-switching, everybody does it. I do it. You do it. You may not realize you’re doing it,” he said.
“There is a difference between mocking someone, or a group of people, and knowing your audience,” Lemon said later.

Lemon missed the point. People are offended precisely because Ocasio-Cortez strategically changed her accent to fit a black audience.
That’s not a good thing. It’s patronizing, and it’s very insulting.
Lemon also parroted Ocasio-Cortez’s defense by claiming she’s used the accent before because she’s from the Bronx.
“She’s from the Bronx. If you are from the Bronx, you have hung out with black people, and that is not the first time she has used that accent. Trust me,” Lemon said.
His explanation doesn’t make any sense. Ocasio-Cortez doesn’t typically speak with a bizarre drawl, and people from the Bronx don’t have that kind of accent. Also, she grew up not in the Bronx but in suburban Westchester County, New York.
It’s pathetic, but not surprising, that CNN’s far-left pundits are defending Ocasio-Cortez’s patronizing accent.
