2006 Abortion Video Comes Back To Haunt Biden
Former Vice President Joe Biden — who currently leads a very large pack of 2020 Democratic presidential hopefuls — might have a bit of explaining to regarding his stance on abortion come debate time.
In a video resurfaced by CNN, during a March 2006 interview with Texas Monthly Talks, Biden made comments on the topic of abortion that probably won’t go over well with the aggressive, pro-abortion crowd of 2019.
His stance at the time was so unaligned with the party even back then — let alone today — that he referred to himself as the “odd man out.”
“I do not view abortion as a choice and a right,” Biden said. “I think it’s always a tragedy, and I think that it should be rare and safe, and I think we should be focusing on how to limit the number of abortions. There ought to be able to have a common ground and consensus as to do that.”
“I’m a little bit of an odd man out in my party,” the former vice president added.
Biden went on to explain that he infuriated pro-life activists with his failure to support limitations on women’s rights as afforded by the outcome of Roe v Wade.
“I do not vote for funding for abortion. I voted against partial birth abortion — to limit it — and I vote for no restrictions on a woman’s right to be able to have an abortion under Roe v. Wade.”
He also said he made “women’s groups” angry because of his support for the Hyde Amendment, which severely limits federal funding for abortions, and because he said he did not support partial-birth abortions.
But Biden, who’s infamous for his tendency to flip-flop on a variety of subjects, changed his mind in grand fashion last week when he announced that he no longer supported the Hyde Amendment.
“I can’t justify leaving millions of women without access to care they need and the ability to constitute, exercise their constitutionally protected right. If I believe healthcare is a right, as I do, I can no longer support an amendment that makes that right dependent on someone’s ZIP code,” he explained.
According to the Washington Examiner, a spokesman for the former vice president was questioned about Biden’s comments in the 2006 video.
“Vice President Biden supports a woman’s right to choose and he believes that we are in a moment of unprecedented assault on choice in this country,” the spokesman said.
At this point in time, even Democrats must be having a hard time determining what the 2020 hopeful believes. Does Biden himself even know what he believes in anymore?
It seems as though it would take an awful lot of brain power for anyone to remember his stance on any given subject on any given day.
And it appears to be crystal clear that Biden will do whatever it takes to maintain that juicy lead in the national polls. If that means flopping around on his policy stances like a freshly landed fish, then so be it.
