Video: 'Brown Berets' Take Over Block Party, Have Kids Smash ICE Officer Piñata
Controversy erupted in Chicago after children were caught on video smashing a piñata shaped like an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer.
The event occurred at a community block party that was apparently hijacked by a Mexican-American activist group known as Los Brown Berets, according to WBBM-TV.
East Side Community Day was initially organized by a chamber of commerce made up of 25 local businesses. Marvin Covington, of the East Side Chamber of Commerce, tacitly approved of the piñata despite denying preemptive knowledge of it.
The leader of the Chicago chapter of Los Brown Berets, Anthony Martinez, asserted that they had always intended to turn the party political, and expressed pride at its execution.
“Some parents were holding their kids to hit the piñata,” Martinez said.
The stunt garnered both praise and disdain on social media, with many people expressing concern that the parents would be promoting violence against officers in the minds of impressionable children.
Martinez, however, defended his organization’s motives.
“It was not meant in a negative way at all towards law enforcement,” he said, apparently forgetting that ICE officers are, in fact, law enforcement. “We’re just making a statement.”
It should go without saying that law enforcement officers are humans, too, and deserve better than this. Unfortunately, the obvious is no longer obvious.
Kids were also given a chance to throw balls at an image of President Donald Trump, competing to knock out his teeth.
For a political coalition that likes to preach tolerance and unity, the left seems awfully intent on dividing communities.
Unity and diversity are about more than skin color and ethnic heritage. Ideological diversity is much more important, and events like this are the antithesis of that.
Of course, to the left, “unity” is simply a code word for agreeing with them. For some reason, the only “unifying” messages are ones that promulgate leftism.
This was supposed to be a community event, a time for people to set aside their differences and connect as friends and neighbors. Los Brown Berets made sure to put a stop to that.
By taking over, they exploited children to squeeze their politics into a place where there was none.
Let’s not forget the violent imagery is also appalling. Will the left condemn it, the same way they condemn everything that comes out of Trump’s mouth as inciting violence?
Don’t hold your breath.
