Age 5 Boy Near Death after Falling from Window. Cop Takes Risky Gamble to Try & Catch Him
Here’s a statistic no parent ever wants to consider. According to the University of Houston, gravity generally accelerates a falling human body at a rate of 32 feet per second per second.
Basically, that means a free-falling child would reach a speed of 32 feet per second after the very first second. And after two seconds, that same child would be falling at 64 feet per second.
The mere thought is absolutely terrifying. After all, young kids can often get themselves into dangerous predicaments in the space of a heartbeat.
Maybe that’s why recent video footage is speeding up the collective heartbeat of social media users all around the world. It shows a 5-year-old falling from a high window — and the incredible aftermath.
The child’s name is Ammar Motaz Abd El-Salam. He was recently spotted dangling precariously from a third-floor apartment window balcony in the southern Egyptian city of Asyut, roughly 200 miles from Cairo.
Fortunately, three Egyptian policemen were in the vicinity to witness this potential tragedy unfolding.
45-year-old officer Kameel Fathy Geed was on patrol with two other colleagues outside a nearby bank, when they came upon the frightening situation.
Demonstrating an amazing degree of quick thinking, Geed and his fellow officers spied a large rug hanging over an adjacent street barricade.
They immediately seized the rug and spread it beneath the window, clearly hoping it could help break young El-Salam’s fall.
A video snippet shows the heart-stopping moment when Geed calls out to the boy.
In essence, he’s encouraging the little guy to trust these three concerned strangers, let go, and simply drop.
It’s incredible to observe the speed and force with which the imperiled youngster plummets into Geed’s waiting arms.
But miraculously, the courageous officer manages to catch the child before they both tumble backwards into the soft rug.
According to reports, one of the policemen sustained minor injuries and was treated at a nearby hospital. But astonishingly, the child himself was completely unharmed.
It’s clear to see why the Egyptian Ministry of the Interior, along with all of social media, are applauding Geed as a hero.
Without any thought for his own welfare, he stepped in without hesitation — and saved this child’s life.
