Age 91 Man Plays Piano Alone at Train Station Until Woman Stops To Sing
Does anyone else feel awed by good piano players? Although I tried to tickle the ivories as a child, I never could get the hang of it.
Seriously, “Chopsticks” proved challenging for 8-year-old me. So when a person can just sit down and play apropos of, well, nothing, my jaw drops.
Perhaps that’s why it’s so fun to see people sit down at the bench in public places, and some of the best spaces to witness piano players perform is in train stations.
Consider what movie star Jeff Goldblum (“Jurassic Park”) did when publicizing his jazz album in 2018. (Yes, believe it or not, Dr. Ian Malcolm released a jazz album.)
He stopped by London’s St. Pancras International Station, according to PopSugar. It’s a train station that has a public piano dedicated to Sir Elton John.
Goldblum simply scooted up to the instrument and started to play, quickly drawing a fascinated crowd. For his part, Goldblum loved the experience.
“I always like playing out and about,” he said. “You never know who you’re gonna meet.”
A 91-year-old man named Dennis who regularly performs at St. Pancras International Station in London, England, was in for a surprise in March.
According to CBS News, a woman named Ceili O’Connor encountered him as he was playing in the train station.
It turned out that she was actually touring with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical “Cats.” So Dennis began to play the song “Memory,” the most famous tune from the play.
His guest quickly provided vocals, her voice rising in a pure, clear soprano with just a hint of vibrato.
And when Ceili O’Connor returned a week later, she found Dennis still at it and greeted him a second time.
“How are you?” Dennis said by way of greeting.
Shocked by his talent and energy, O’Connor asked the question all of us are thinking: “How are you 91?”
