Army Veteran Breaks Down in Tears When She's Handed Keys to Mortgage-Free Home

Share

Owning a home — it’s the American dream, right? Sadly, for many military veterans who have served our country, that dream is farther away than it ought to be.

As the wife of a veteran, I can personally attest to the challenges my husband has faced during post-military life.

According to the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans, “about 11% of the adult homeless population are veterans.”

Thankfully, there are individuals and companies out there who have made it their mission to make life here on the home front much more attainable for those who have sacrificed so much.

Army Sgt. Joann Springer of Dearborn, Michigan has finally experienced the blessing of homeownership, but it didn’t come without its challenges.

“I’ve been struggling being a homeowner for years,” Springer told WWJ News Radio. “You know, when my kids (were) young I wanted to be a homeowner.”

She went on to share that life and finances got in the way, something so many home-owning hopefuls can relate to.

But Bank of America changed everything for this Army veteran when they handed her the keys to her new, mortgage-free home.

Do you know a veteran who has struggled to own a home?

“We made a commitment back in 2012 to put over 1,000 veterans in homes…” the Senior Vice President at Bank of America told WWJ. “We’re proud to say that as of today we’ve put over 2,000 veterans into homes.”

“This is so beautiful…,” Springer added. “Because now they can see there (are) people out there who can really help you.”

WWJ reported the Veteran’s Association of Real Estate Professionals assisted in helping Springer achieve her dream as well.
