Ben Shapiro Torches Internet Troll After Ridiculous Comparison Between His Wife and Ocasio-Cortez
For some lighthearted entertainment this autumn, you could certainly do worse than the minor-key internet war between pundit Ben Shapiro and House of Representatives candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
If you’re tuning in late, here’s what you’ve missed: After Ocasio-Cortez upset one of the top Democrats in the House in a June primary, she became the media’s lovable face of new socialism. Unfortunately, when the interviewers weren’t entirely simpatico, she tended to bomb. This prompted Shapiro to challenge her to a debate.
Ocasio-Cortez called this “catcalling” and implied Shapiro was a misogynist for even asking about a debate, which she framed as more of a demand. It then surfaced that Ocasio-Cortez had literally demanded a debate with her opponent by storming into his campaign office with supporters.
That revelation led to this priceless tweet:

That led to a priceless exchange on Twitter with a troll who compared the two.
Now, anyone who’s a frequent listener of Shapiro’s knows his wife is a doctor. They know because he not infrequently proffers this fact. As evidence of how much this factoid is a part of his repertory, consider that the Facebook group “Ben Shapiro’s Wife is a Doctor” has over 7,000 members.
In fact, a YouTube video about a domestic dispute in the Shapiro household was titled: “Ben Shapiro Fights with His Wife (Who Is a Doctor).”
If you’ve followed the Ocasio-Cortez campaign, you also know the fact that the activist was a bartender in a restaurant also plays a significant part in her origin story. Much like how we’re all supposed to take reassurance whenever a candidate sips on a Yuengling that his beery enjoyments signify he’s one of us, Ocasio-Cortez’s restaurant experience is apparently supposed to signify she’s among the working class.
Someone on Twitter decided to compare the two facts, which are related … um, because:

Not even quite sure what that’s supposed to mean, although I guess it’s because both individuals repeat those aspects of their lives with some regularity. Shapiro, however, noted that that’s where the similarities ended.

The fundamental difference between these two statements is that a) Shapiro isn’t a political candidate using this statement cynically for his own gain and b) being a doctor actually requires somewhat more training than bartending.
Alas, this is what happens when you take on Ben Shapiro. Facts come up with distinct regularity, and they don’t care about your feelings.
If only we could see him and Ocasio-Cortez head-to-head. Ah, but there I go again — catcalling.
