After Billy Graham Funeral, Steven Curtis Chapman Knew Exactly How To Honor Him & Grabs Guitar
Reverend Billy Graham was an evangelist who helped countless men, women, and children break down walls that seemed to hinder them from coming to know Christ.
One tool that Graham used was music, and his choice in artists was often not limited to those who produced worship music.
The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association shared an observation that singer-songwriter Steven Curtis Chapman had made about Graham regarding his use of music.
According to Chapman, Graham found ways to use artists such as Johnny Cash to ultimately advance the Gospel.
“He was always looking for that opportunity. How can I reach people ultimately to present the message to them?” Chapman commented.
On March 2, around 2,300 people gathered together at Graham’s private funeral.
He was remembered for his unique ability to present the message of God’s love.
It feels accurate to write about how Graham was a great man of God.
Chapman, however, doesn’t believe that is how the evangelist would want to be remembered.
“I think he would want us to remember him not so much as a great man of God, but as a humble man of a great God…He wanted to point people to Jesus & call them to come to Him,” Chapman shared on Facebook after attending the funeral.
The impact Graham has had on the world is difficult to put into words. Chapman knew exactly how he could honor Graham through song, though.
He pulled out his guitar with the perfect song in mind. “Just As I Am” is a song these two men of faith had sung whenever they were together.
Chapman posted a video of himself on Facebook singing the hymn in honor of Graham.
“I am certain that nothing would honor him more today than for one more wandering, lost, hurting, struggling heart to hear that message and know that Jesus is calling them to come to Himself, just as they are,” Chapman explained.
Just by looking at the response to Chapman’s video, it appears that many hurting hearts were touched by the song.
Whether it’s through an evangelist or a song, God’s name is glorified when we seek to truly connect to those in need of hearing the message of faith Graham dedicated his life to proclaiming.
