Blind Golden Retriever Just Got His Own Seeing Eye Puppy

Share

We’ve all heard of seeing eye dogs who help people. But what happens when your faithful canine companion struggles with sight issues?

As it turns out, you get them a seeing eye dog, too. Or at least that’s what Chelsea and Adam Stipe of North Carolina did for their Golden Retriever, Charlie.

Charlie has been with this family for years but he hasn’t been doing too well lately.

“For us it was a no-brainer, empty our retirement plan to care for this dog because he makes us happy,” Chelsea told NBC.

Sadly, glaucoma caused the 11-year-old pup to have his eyes removed. The poor guy is completely blind and needs help to get around.

And then Maverick came into the picture. The little Golden is 4 months old, but don’t let his age fool you. This dog has some mad skills when it comes to helping his elderly friend.

Have you ever heard of a seeing eye dog for a dog?

Since the Stipes brought Maverick into their home, they’ve noticed huge changes in Charlie’s mood and behavior.

“He’s wanting to go for walks more,” Adam told NBC Nightly News. Chelsea added that “he’s acting like a puppy.”

The dogs are clearly the best of friends. The Stipes say they wanted a younger dog for their newborn son Asher to grow up with.

The relationship between Charlie and Maverick is so sweet and the younger dog even uses a leash to guide the older one around.

“They’re both pretty crazy and special,” Chelsea shared with NBC. “They’re definitely our entertainment.” Now this dynamic duo has become our entertainment, too.

Adam described the dogs like brothers. They seem to get along quite well and the Stipes couldn’t be happier with their decision to bring Maverick into the family.
