Boom: Pence Statement on the Flag Leaves Thousands Cheering "USA"
President Donald Trump made a point in his State of the Union address to give praise to a young man who put flags at the graves of our veterans, noting that it reminded “us why we salute our flag, why we put our hands on our hearts for the Pledge of Allegiance, and why we proudly stand for the national anthem.”
That sent liberals into a tizzy, with Jemele Hill of ESPN going as far as to call it “racial pornography.”
So, when Vice President Mike Pence spoke at CPAC this week, he made sure to repeat the statement.
“I’m here because I stand with President Trump,” Pence said during his appearance at the conference in National Harbor, Maryland on Thursday, according to The Daily Caller.
“I’m here because we stand with the conservative movement. And come to think of it, we always stand for our flag and our national anthem, as well.”
And that’s when the crowd went wild:
As you can see, the crowd at CPAC decided to chant “USA! USA!” over standing for the national anthem.
Take that, Jemele Hill.
That wasn’t all Pence said he was standing for during his speech, either.
“I stand here today with profound gratitude to say that because of all of you, because of the conservative majorities on Congress that you helped elect and because of the strong leadership of the president that you put in the White House, 2017 was the most consequential year in the history of the conservative movement,” Pence said to applause.
While we don’t know if it was the most consequential — I’m sure Ronald Reagan might have something to say about that — it was certainly quite close.
Between a great Supreme Court justice in Neil Gorsuch, a tax cut that will not only spur economic growth but neuter Obamacare’s most onerous regulation (the individual mandate) and changing the debate on so many issues — including political correctness and immigration — it was certainly quite the year.
As Pence reminded the crowd, 2018 could be different; midterms are coming up, and the Democrats are looking to win back at least the House.
Even with that, however, conservatives should still continue to stand proud — for conservatism, for patriotism and most certainly for the national anthem.
