Broncos stars want Jaguars comparison to stop now

The Jacksonville Jaguars rode a very good defense to a spot in the AFC championship game.

The Denver Broncos won Super Bowl 50 thanks, in part, to a really, really good defense.

Current Jaguars defensive lineman Malik Jackson was part of Denver’s Super Bowl championship team, so he’s very familiar with both squads.

He claims he still has friends who are still with the Broncos from that championship team, but he may have burned some bridges last week with a comment on social media.

When a Broncos fan went on Instagram and claimed Jacksonville’s defense was good, but nowhere near as good as Denver’s in 2015, Jackson fired back a reply.

“The Broncos are at home while we are still playing,” Jackson wrote. “Quiet down over there, you aren’t part of the ’15 defense, I am. So I can compare.”

Well, Jacksonville’s defense wasn’t bad on Sunday, but it wasn’t good enough to stop Tom Brady and the Patriots from advancing to Super Bowl LII.

After the game, some of Jackson’s former teammates in Denver said the Jaguars’ loss should stop any comparisons between the Jaguars and the Super Bowl-champion Broncos.

By comparison, the 2015 Broncos allowed 44 points in three postseason games. This year’s Jaguars allowed 69 points, including 42 in their win last week against Pittsburgh.

Jackson had hoped his experience of defeating Tom Brady in the 2015 AFC championship game would help Jacksonville’s effort this year. He showed tape of that game to some of his teammates last week so they could see the blueprint for success.

The Broncos knocked Brady down early and often in that game. He was sacked four times, took 17 hits and threw two interceptions as Denver earned a trip to Super Bowl 50 with a 20-18 win in Denver.

Brady finished that game just 27-of-56 passing for 310 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. His quarterback rating of 56.4 is the second-worst mark of his 36 career playoff starts.

And while Brady took some hits in Sunday’s game — he was sacked three times and knocked down several more times — but was 27-39 for 298 yards and two touchdowns.

Both of those touchdowns came in the fourth quarter, when New England rallied from a 20-10 deficit to pull out a 24-20 win.

Jackson can now join his former Denver teammates in watching the Super Bowl in two weeks.
