BuzzFeed Writer Thinks MAGA Boys Still Deserved Backlash Because of Their 'Face'
It has been well documented over the past several years that many on the political left hold a deep and abiding hatred for white people, particularly white people with a conservative ideology and Christian faith — especially when those white, conservative Christians also support President Donald Trump.
Indeed, the left has all but declared all-out war against white Christian conservative Trump supporters, as was blatantly on display this weekend with the liberal media’s online dogpile on a group of red MAGA hat-wearing Catholic school boys who were falsely accused of racism and harassment against a Native American leftist activist.
Initially, video seemed to indicate that the MAGA boys were harassing the Native American activist — and both the left and some on the right pounced on the boys — but other, longer videos soon emerged that painted an entirely different picture, one which showed the boys were being harassed by a separate group prior to the drum-beating Native American interjecting himself into the mix.
Yet, even after the additional evidence had been heavily publicized — and to their credit, some in the media quickly apologized and walked back their criticisms of the boys — others on the left ignored or discounted that additional evidence and continued to lash out at the boys simply because of their gender, race and political leanings.
I have watched all of the videos. You can understand that the situation was more complex than the first video and still recognize why the sight of that face caused a visceral reaction in so many.

The above tweet came from a writer for Buzzfeed, Anne Helen Petersen, who wrote, “I have watched all of the videos. You can understand that the situation was more complex than the first video and still recognize why the sight of that face caused a visceral reaction in so many.”
In essence, she declared that regardless of what had been made obvious by the additional evidence and longer videos of the incident, she remained steadfast in her feeling that the “visceral reaction” from the left against the boys was justified solely because of the “sight of that face.”
And what, pray tell, did leftist like Petersen see in that face? A smiling, white, Christian conservative male wearing a red MAGA hat. Because of course the mere sight of a smiling, white, Christian, conservative Trump-supporting male deserves to be hounded by an online lynch mob, accused of being a horrible person, doxxed so all of his and his families personal information can be posted online and have his life ruined … simply because of the look on his face.
That tweet from Petersen was actually part of a much longer thread of tweets summarizing her view of the incident. That thread began with a tweet which compared the smiling MAGA hat kid with a smiling picture of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, and noted, “how deeply familiar this look is. It’s the look of white patriarchy, of course, but that familiarity — that banality — is part of what prompts the visceral reaction.”
One theme of the conversations over the past 24 hours = how deeply familiar this look is. It’s the look of white patriarchy, of course, but that familiarity — that banality — is part of what prompts the visceral reaction. This isn’t spectacular. It’s life in America. pic.twitter.com/TmziDwAjYA

In other words, again, the mere sight of a smiling conservative Christian male is enough justification for the left to launch their online lynch mobs intent on destroying lives and careers.
Petersen’s thread proceeded to document how she has encountered “this guy” — a smirking white male — in all facets of life, from childhood to adulthood, and quite obviously inferred that most — though not all — smiling white males were either already, or had the propensity, to become “this guy.”
Even after her sort-of apology and admission that her initial take on the incident was wrong, the one in which she suggested that “the sight of the face” still justified the backlash against the innocent boys, she added another half-hearted caveat.
She doubled-down on her assumption that white males enjoy a certain privilege to get away with anything, a ridiculous notion that millions of white men who’ve been imprisoned, seen their careers ruined or families destroyed by bad behavior or mistakes would beg to differ with.
And I don’t think that being white or a man means you behave in a certain way. But it does allow you to behave in a certain way, if you chose, generally without consequences. In public, in the classroom, throughout your life. That’s privilege.

In the end this collectivist identitarian pablum from Petersen was nothing more than an attempt to provide cover for her fellow leftists who were still slinging vileness at the boys even after they’d been fully exonerated.
That, my friends, is what real racism and sexism looks like these days, when leftists can declare open season on innocent kids simply because of the color of their skin, the look on their face or the hat they are wearing … and that sort of crap needs to stop, now.
