This Church Opened a Prison Campus and Has Already Had Over 500 Salvations
Ministry and outreach are beautiful things, especially when they go beyond the span of our close-knit circles and communities.
It can be difficult to step outside our comfort zones and reach out to those who may seem rough around the edges or different from those we encounter in our everyday walks of life.
The truth is, everyone needs community and fellowship. Everyone needs grace and forgiveness. And everyone needs Jesus.
This is the mindset of a pastor from Texas. Robert Morris is the senior lead pastor of Gateway Church, a multi-campus congregation located in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
Founded in the year 2000, the church was started with a goal in mind — the people. “At Gateway, we’re all about people,” the church’s website reads.
Morris’ newest campus addition just shows the pastor believes in living these words. “At Gateway Church, we’re all about people because God is all about people,” Morris told Fox News.
People who are broken, hurting, and even the ones who have a past. There is a place at Gateway for each and every one of them.
Even for those within the walls and gates of the Coffield Unit prison in Anderson Country. Over 4,000 criminal offenders reside within the unit that’s about an hour and a half away from the main Gateway campus.
But the distance and the location haven’t stopped this fold of sheep from inviting these men in, welcoming them with open arms into their church family.
A video posted on Facebook by Pastor Morris announced that a new Gateway campus was planted inside the Coffield Unit on Nov. 28, 2018. Over 300 men attended that first service.
Watch these guys as they pray, praise and disciple. The sight is amazing and makes you stop and thank God for the impact of his love.
“Gateway has really impacted my life because some of us do not have visits,” one inmate shared. “And you guys comin’ in here and sharing y’all’s love to us has really impacted our lives.”
Astounding, heartwarming and a truly beautiful example of what Christ’s ministry on earth was all about. According to Fox News, this campus has been seven years in the making.
We’re so glad to see it finally come to fruition. The ministry has seen over 500 new salvations since its launch date. We hope to hear of many more and look forward to watching this ministry grow.
