Clever School Sends Hilarious 'Opt-Out' Letter to Parents That Goes Viral
The first day of school can seem like a break. At long last, mom or dad can go to the grocery store without a trail of kiddos behind them!
But, not so fast, there’s a price to pay for those long hours teachers and school staff and faculty members spend with our children.
Many parents dread the inevitable folder full of paperwork they have to fill out. The emails start flooding their inboxes — “Sign your life over!” they seem to say.
Some parents are blessed to stay at home and have the opportunity to be involved in school functions and events. But even this is a full-time job and can be exhausting.
Others work full or part-time or simply don’t have the capacity or availability to volunteer. They feel guilty and secretly wish there was a less time-consuming way to extend their support.
I’ve been in that situation before. It can seem overwhelming. While all the other moms were bringing homemade goodies to the bake sale, I was rushing into Walmart at 8:30 in the morning for three dozen cookies.
One mom is praising her kid’s school for finally offering an option that may just be the saving grace for a number of busy moms and dads.
Briana Leggett Woods shared a post on Facebook thanking Auburn High School in Alabama for offering an “opt-out” option for fundraisers.
The form Woods shared is hilarious. If only every school offered something like this. I’ll bet there would be many a parent all too happy to “opt-out” in exchange for a small donation.
Increments of $15, $25 or $50 are requested on the form. I don’t know about you, but I’d put down the full $50 if it added some sanity to my future.
Woods shared her thoughts with Love What Matters. “What a breath of fresh air!” she wrote. “My very first thought was, ‘Someone finally gets it. Sign me up!’ I was ecstatic to see this idea presented in such a humorous way.”
In her story, Woods talks about how she and her family had just moved to the area. Woods works part-time as a nurse and spends the rest of her free time being the best mom she can be.
The “opt-out” form made her day. No doubt many parents share in her frustrations and can relate to her struggles.
