Clueless: Leading Dem Durbin Compares Illegal Immigrant Kids to Pizza

Share

Illinois Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin compared keeping track of illegal immigrant children to tracking Domino’s pizza on the Senate floor Wednesday.

We really don’t know where the kids are. We’re going to have to go looking,” Durbin said.

Order that pizza from Domino’s,” he said. “Call them after 15 minutes and ask them, ‘Where is the pizza?’ They will tell you.

But when it came to children and families, this agency ICE, along with other agencies in this government, lost them.”

Durbin’s speech was against a Senate resolution calling for support of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The resolution comes in response to nationwide protests against ICE and calls for its abolition from Democrats.

Durbin came up short of calling to abolish ICE, and he said the agency “has important responsibilities, combating serious criminal activity like smuggling, bulk cash, drugs, weapons (and) human trafficking” in his speech.

Do you think Dick Durbin's comparison was inappropriate?

Durbin frequently criticizes ICE on Twitter for the its involvement in President Donald Trump’s zero-tolerance immigration policy that previously separated illegal immigrant parents from their children.

“It’s clear that ICE is unprepared and seemingly unwilling to reunite the infants and kids they forcibly removed at the border. We need a different solution to this humanitarian crisis,” Durbin tweeted on June 30.

The Senate will vote on the resolution supporting ICE on Wednesday.

So far, no Democrats have spoken in support of the resolution.
