Cop Surprises Boy with Gift After Video of 12-Year-Old Dancing Goes Viral
Though the “King of Pop” passed away nearly a decade ago, his legacy has lived on through the music — and the dance moves — he left behind.
It seems like Michael Jackson songs are linked to many a popular film. From “Free Willy” to “13 Going on 30,” the king’s tunes have remained iconic throughout the years.
The newest generation may be oblivious to the fact that Justin Timberlake used to be in a boy band or that Jimmy Fallon did not always host “The Tonight Show.”
However, most everyone, young or old, will still recognize a Michael Jackson song after hearing a mere few bars.
Which is why it’s no surprise that an officer from the Greenville Police Department in North Carolina would find a boy as young as 12 dancing it up on the street in classic, M.J. fashion.
“Hi, my name is Javon, I’m 12 years old, and I like Michael Jackson,” Javon Dendy says in a video that has since gone viral, receiving over 600K views within one week.
“Watch this kid. He’s really good,” the officer filming, Kawain Harrison, tells the camera. “I’m on a call, and this kid got the moves.”
Got the moves is right. Anyone familiar with Michael Jackson’s dancing style will be impressed by Javon’s imitation of the familiar dance from “Billie Jean.”
“When you encounter a talent like Javon,” Harrison wrote in the video’s caption, “sometimes, the best thing to do is hit record on your phone, get out of the way and let him do his thing.”
And that’s exactly what Harrison did. But his interaction with the young talent didn’t stop there.
Apparently, Officer Harrison just couldn’t get Javon out of his mind, so he and his wife decided to invest in a meaningful gift for the dancer, who humbly claims he learned how to move like Michael by watching “Ellen.”
Watch as the 12-year-old opens his gift. His eyes may be covered by a pair of shades, but it’s clear he grows more than a little emotional over what’s inside the box.
Javon received the outfit of his dreams, complete with a red leather jacket just like the one worn by Michael Jackson himself. But the surprises didn’t end there.
Thanks to Officer Harrison’s viral video, the Southern Elite Dance Company in Spartanburg had a chance to see Javon in action. Since then, they’ve offered him a scholarship which will allow him to take classes in the fall.
What a touching story. No doubt even the “King of Pop” would be impressed, not only by this young man’s abilities, but by his sweet heart as well.
