Dad of Bully Booted off School Bus Forces Her To Walk 5 Miles to School. Follows Whole Way To Make Sure She's Safe.
When a 10-year-old Ohio girl was handed two school bus suspensions in the same year for bullying another child, her dad was upset.
But when the same girl then practically commanded her dad to chauffeur her to school, he knew it was time to act.
Matt Cox introduced his daughter to his own brand of punishment this week that’s now gone viral across social media. While some are furious at his decision, most parents seem closer to overjoyed at what they describe as a tough-but-fair solution.
Cox’s remedy for his daughter’s bullying behavior?
He made her walk the five miles to school, broken up across three days, in frigid winter temperatures. It’s a lesson in humility she’s unlikely to forget anytime soon.
A video recorded by Cox has been making the rounds on Facebook, shared by supportive parents and angry critics alike.
Before getting upset, viewers need to understand a few things about this video.
First, taking into account the chilly weather, the child appears to be dressed in warm winter clothing — a hooded sweatshirt and long pants.
Second, she’s not being made to walk alone, either. Her dad follows closely in his vehicle (presumably with the heat on full blast) during the video.
Which means that, third, this isn’t even close to child abuse. It’s discipline.
“I know a lot of you parents are not going to agree with this and that’s all right,” Cox told WTVG. “I am doing what I think is right to teach my daughter a lesson to stop her from bullying.”
Cox is definitely teaching one of the most important lessons that can be imparted on a child: accountability.
Of course, there are plenty of people who go on to lead long lives without being taught accountability as a youngster. If you need convincing, just look at the American prison system. It’s populated almost entirely by people who failed to realize that actions have consequences.
Luckily, Cox understood this.
“I just want the kids to know that words truly do hurt,” he said. “They cut very deep and have lasting effects.
“I hope that parents hold their kids accountable,” he added.
Repeat bullying put his daughter in this position, but her freezing trek to school should help ensure that she’ll be on her best behavior from now on.
