Dad Photographed Mowing Ex-Wife's Lawn 28 Years After Getting Divorced

Share

Divorce is a common denominator in our culture today. But divorce doesn’t always have to mean hostility. For many couples who split, kindness and respect can still be possibilities.

Some choose bitterness and disdain over healthy co-parenting. This is a situation that’s sad and disheartening for everyone involved.

But one photographer from Texas is breaking the mold with some photos she shared on Facebook. What’s happening in the photos may seem unbelievable.

“This is my dad, mowing my mom’s lawn,” 32-year-old Codie LaChelle McPhate wrote on Facebook. “They’ve been divorced 28 years.”

McPhate is the photographer behind 1822 Photography. She snapped these photos and shared the story behind them with Love What Matters.

“My mom has bad knees, and my stepdad works out of town,” she wrote. When her siblings asked why her dad was mowing the lawn, McPhate simply told them, “Because she needed help.”

The answer was that simple to her dad. Her mom needed help so he helped her. If only everyone could view acts of kindness as simply as this man appears to.

According to McPhate, her dad doesn’t even live in the same area, but happened to be in Texas with her on vacation.

Now that the post has gone viral, with 16,000 shares to date, this photographer’s dad has been a little embarrassed by all the attention, and even admits he’s “no saint.”

But anyone who’s viewed these heartwarming photos of his selfless act could argue otherwise. Clearly he is a better man than most.

“He just wants to show others that you don’t need to act like an angelic pastor on lent,” McPhate told Love What Matters. “But that we should all choose kindness whenever we can.”

Choose kindness. Two simple words that carry so much meaning.

This dad is an example to us all. His act shows what it truly means to offer love and compassion to everyone… even an ex-spouse.

“I’m very fortunate to have such amazing parents” McPhate shared. “I know my moms and dads would do anything for each other, because we’re family.”

Family indeed. These pictures embody the true definition of what family really is.

What an inspiration. We could all use the reminder to be a little more kind, and to help others — ex-spouses or strangers — when they need it most.
