Dana Loesch Drops Bombshell on "Legacy Media" And Their Love of Mass Shootings

Share

Dana Loesch is loved by the right and hated by the left for being a no-holds-barred bulldog when it comes to defending the Second Amendment — and she certainly lived up to that controversial reputation on Thursday.

During an unscheduled appearance at the Conservative Political Action Conference, the political commentator and NRA spokesperson aimed her ire at two targets: The mainstream media and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The fiery conservative called out what she called the “legacy media,” and held them partially responsible for adding fuel to the fire of tragedies like the recent Florida school shooting.

“Many in legacy media love mass shootings. You guys love it,” Loesch declared from the CPAC stage. She addressed some of the journalists placed in the rear of the venue.

“Now I’m not saying that you love the tragedy. But I am saying that you love the ratings,” the NRA spokesperson continued, according to CNN. “Crying white mothers are ratings gold to you and many in the legacy media in the back (of the room).”

Then Loesch pointed out that the mainstream media does not report incidents like the Florida tragedy the same way they cover frequent violence in Democrat-controlled enclaves like Chicago.

“And notice I said ‘crying white mothers’ because there are thousands of grieving black mothers in Chicago every weekend, and you don’t see town halls for them, do you?” Loesch asked. “Where’s the CNN town hall for Chicago? Where’s the CNN town hall for sanctuary cities?”

It’s a valid point: Nobody disputes that the 17 deaths in the Parkland school incident are tragic and preventable. However, the media seems to be in a frenzy over that violence but stays strangely quiet about even higher numbers of murders that don’t fit their narrative.

Does the mainstream media have a role to play in reducing mass shootings?

To date, 24 people have been shot and killed in gun-controlled Chicago within February alone, according to a website that tracks the city’s crime stats. Nearly 60 percent of murder victims so far in 2018 have been black, with that race also being the highest number of assailants.

Loesch isn’t wrong: Black Americans are killing and being killed in places like Chicago in much higher numbers than the recent Florida tragedy, but that liberal city already has gun control… so the situation is predictably swept under the rug by the media.

That view was echoed at CPAC by NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre. “As usual, the opportunists waited not one second to exploit tragedy for political gain,” LaPierre said that the conference on the same day Loesch spoke.

“Chris Murphy, Nancy Pelosi, and more, cheered on by the national media, eager to blame the NRA and call for more government control,” LaPierre declared. “The elites don’t care one wit about school children. If they truly cared, they would protect them.”

It now looks like the federal government actually had a chance to protect the school, but failed to take proper action. The top law enforcement bureau has admitted that it received several warnings about the gunman before the incident, but didn’t pass on these tips to local authorities or take the matter sufficiently seriously.

“My condemnation is for those folks at the FBI — I know there are some good agents there — for those at the FBI that dropped the ball eight separate times with catastrophic consequences,” Dana Loesch scolded at CPAC, hinting at other instances such as the Orlando nightclub shooting and the Boston bombing where the federal government again had information but failed to act.

Liberals may cry foul at darling outlets like CNN being called out for their culpability in giving school shooters endless attention, but even the left should admit that giving criminals the spotlight after these tragedies is part of the problem.

Since the days of Columbine, it has been widely accepted that some shooters seek notoriety and infamy by carrying out their heinous acts. CNN and other networks often give them exactly what they seek: 24/7 media hype and wall-to-wall coverage, because — as Loesch said — it is good for their ratings.

“If it bleeds, it leads,” as the saying goes. That may boost television viewership, but it is having a deadly impact on the country. It’s time we had a real conversation about whether the media has a role in reducing these crimes.
