Dana Loesch Tears Into HuffPo for Hit Piece on Son's Birthday Cake
I understand there are slow news days. They happen here too.
Granted, I’m surprised there are slow news days this week, given the fact that we have the Mueller report being turned in and a terror event that happened just last Friday, but some people can’t find stuff to write about. And when the fine folks at the Huffington Post are picking at the journalistic scraps, things tend to get weird.
My personal favorite example of this was in October of 2017, when a brilliant sleuth at HuffPo believed she had found Ivanka Trump’s 21-minute lovemaking playlist on Spotify.
HuffPo writer Ashley Feinberg’s evidence for this seemed to be that the playlist was made 10 days before her anniversary and titled “991122,” which is the HTML hexadecimal color code for dark red. I’m really not making this up. The article actually got worse from there, somehow.
But hey, if you think things are bad at the American HuffPo, just look at what’s going on over in France. Apparently, the Gallic version of the beloved liberal rag has so little to talk about they actually wrote an article on NRA spokeswoman Dana Loesch’s birthday cake for her son.

The unassailably cool cake was baked by her husband. However, the people at Le Huffington Post found something to assail — because it’s the HuffPo, after all, and apparently they’re tired of covering the Yellow Vests.

“The NRA spokesperson can not be said to be inconsistent … Dana Loesch, known in the United States for speaking out for the gun lobby, offered her son a cake birthday in the shape of … hand grenade,” Julien Harel wrote in a Friday article, according to a Google computer translation.
Harel noted that the cake was “concocted by her husband Christopher Loesch, a pastry lover and firearm lover.”
The rest of the article, of course, is about how Dana Loesch is a repugnant individual.
“Regularly invited to defend the NRA’s point of view on television and social networks, Dana Loesch is a regular in polemics,” Harel wrote.
“The latest scandal is after the killings in Parkland high school that killed 17 people in Florida on May 18, 2018. The journalist accused the media of creating these killers through their media coverage of events.”
“American law prohibits the possession of firearms under 21 in most states. Dana Loesch’s son will have to wait three more years before receiving his own assault rifle from his mother’s hands,” he concluded.
Actually, that’s pretty much untrue; while federal law makes it illegal to buy a handgun under the age of 21, long guns can be purchased at the age of 18. But then again, one doesn’t expect the French to know the intricacies of American firearm law.
One would hope, however, they would have some understanding of tact.
Even though the article may have originated in France, Loesch pointed out that it was yet another example of why conservatives don’t trust the media.
Ask me again why I am justifiably critical of so many in media. They run insane garbage like this ALL THE TIME. My kid’s birthday cake is news? You’re so triggered about A CAKE that you’re going to write a thousand word screed on it? Good grief.

Exactly. This isn’t news. The only hook seems to be that her husband made a grenade cake, so let’s talk about how awful she is. That’s the arc of the article in one sentence. There’s not even a transition. Loesch was absolutely right to go after a writer who has nothing better to do than turn her kid’s birthday into a hit piece on her.
Even if there was nothing better to write about in France than how much they hate a gun rights advocate 3,000 miles away, wasn’t there a better hook here than her kid’s birthday cake? This is why conservatives will never trust the media. They can’t even bake their kid a cake without getting criticized.
Oh well. I would tell Mr. Harel to apprendre à coder, but apparently, Twitter doesn’t like that.
