Dems Faking Immigration Outrage: Place It 9th on List of Issues They Worry About
To hear Democrats and the liberal media talk these past several weeks, one would presume that the plight of illegal immigrants apprehended after illicitly entering the country was far and away the most important issue facing our nation at this moment.
Indeed, a substantial amount of biased media coverage and Democrat anguish has been expended with regard to the Trump administration’s “zero tolerance” border enforcement policy which, based on court precedence and prior administration’s policies, saw illegal immigrant families temporarily separated while being processed and prosecuted for illegal entry.
But a recent poll showed that the entire issue of immigration — not just the temporary separation of families — was well down on the list of most important issues for Democrats ahead of the 2018 midterm elections.
Rather, the topic of immigration ranked as the ninth issue that would hold “a lot of influence” on their voting decisions in the upcoming elections, according to a poll conducted by the American Culture & Faith Institute.
For those individuals who identified as liberals, gun rights (more accurately, gun control) was the top issue among 71 percent of respondents, followed by quality of government (64 percent), President Donald Trump (59 percent), environment (58 percent) and tax policy (56 percent).
Those issued were followed in importance among liberals by employment/jobs (53 percent), court nominations (51 percent) and defense/terrorism (49 percent).
All of those issues took precedence with self-identified liberals in this poll ahead of immigration, which held “a lot of influence” with a mere 48 percent of those on the left, as compared to the other issues.
That may explain why the media almost forgot to keep pushing their illegal immigrant family separation sob stories for a few days when it was first announced that Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy was set to retire, which opened his seat to be filled by a Trump nominee that the Republican-controlled Senate has already vowed to confirm.
Conversely, immigration was actually the most important issue for self-identified conservatives in this particular poll, as 65 percent said it held a lot of influence on their voting decisions.
That is most likely due to the oft-repeated promises from President Trump and some congressional Republicans to secure the southern border with a wall and to reform the legal system of immigration to be more merit-oriented.
The next most important issues for conservatives were gun rights and Trump (both tied at 63 percent), followed by tax policy (62 percent) and defense/terrorism (61 percent).
Interestingly, the survey discovered that there were four major issues which seemed to rank highly among a majority of respondents regardless of their ideological alignment, though for different reasons perhaps, to include government performance, gun rights/control, President Trump himself and the level of crime/violence across and in various parts of the nation.
Also of interest is the fact that several other issues were granted significant coverage by the liberal media, as if they are of incredible importance to Democrats, such as abortion (44 percent), gender equality (48 percent) and gay rights (39 percent).
Those issues, along with racism and racial equality, receive plenty of coverage but simply don’t weigh as heavily on the minds of the liberals voters involved in this survey, at least as compared to the aforementioned issues that all ranked higher than immigration.
Thus, it becomes clear that the single-minded freak-out by Democrats and the liberal media with regard to the plight of illegal immigrants is little more than an attention-grabbing stunt, likely as a distraction from Trump’s “winning” agenda and other bad news for the left.
In short, the focus on immigration is fraudulent, regardless of the intensely emotional displays that have been seen, and though the issue does bear some importance for the left — more so for the right — it is not their number one issue, as some would have us believe.
