Doctor Calling It a Miracle: Boy Thrown from Mall Balcony Shows No Signs of Brain Damage
Yet another miracle has occurred for a family rooted in faith. We recently learned of the Burton family — how their 12-year-old son William who suffered a cardiac arrest made it home from the hospital in time for Easter Sunday.
You may also have seen Landen’s story in the news. The boy is just 5 years old, but he has defied the odds in a fight for his life — or, rather, God has defied the odds for him.
On April 12, 2019, Landen was thrown from the third-story balcony at the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota.
Landen was targeted by 24-year-old Emmanuel Deshawn Aranda. According to Pioneer Press, Aranda was “looking for someone to kill” after his advances toward women were rejected at the same mall.
The little boy could have died after the horrible incident, but the family’s pastor says the power of prayer made a difference.
On Easter Sunday, Pastor Mac Hammond of Brooklyn Park’s Living Word Christian Center shared the amazing story of how Landen was protected during the heartbreaking ordeal.
Pastor Hammond explained how a sense of “dread” came over Landen’s mother as she entered the mall. It was then she began to pray for protection over her son.
“When this occurred,” Hammond said, “when he got thrown over that rail … she started down the stairs and people were screaming … she would just say, ‘Just pray.'”
According to Hammond, Landen spent 5 hours in an MRI machine. As it turns out, in the words of the pastor, “The MRI is a testimony itself.”
“There was zero evidence of brain damage,” Hammond told his congregation. “Not just brain damage, there wasn’t even any swelling in the brain.”
Landen did suffer internal bleeding and many broken bones, but overall the damage was minimal compared to what could have happened.
“No spinal cord injury, no nerve damage, no internal injuries that were life threatening,” he explained.
Quoting the boy’s attending physician, Hammond shared, “This is a truly a miracle … It’s like he fell off a bicycle instead of off the 3rd floor of the mall.”
If that isn’t a true testament to prayer and God’s ability to perform a miracle, I don’t know what is. Beyond that, nearly $1 million has been raised to date by the GoFundMe campaign created to support the family’s medical bills and healing process.
Pioneer Press also reported Aranda has been charged with attempted premeditated first-degree murder. Please continue to pray for Landen and his family as they follow the long road to recovery.
