Doctors Say It's Impossible for Her to Have Children, She Proves They're Wrong

Share

Krystin Friend was told by doctors that it would be almost impossible for her to have children.

In fact, there was a point in her life when doctors thought she didn’t have much time left on earth.

When Friend was 14 years old, she was diagnosed with autoimmune hepatitis. Her kidneys and liver were being attacked by her immune system.

In 2008, she underwent a liver transplant. But this transplant didn’t end her health struggles.

Her body rejected the liver. She also had congestive heart failure and would need a double transplant for her failing kidneys and liver.

Miraculously, she survived her 2012 double transplant. And that wouldn’t be the only miracle Friend experienced.

She proved doctors’ predictions wrong about her ability to get pregnant.

“If you tell me that something can’t be done, I’m going to try to prove you wrong. I just stayed hopeful and prayed to God, and just believed God that I would have a successful pregnancy if I chose to have a child,” Friend shared with WBBM.

Her anti-rejection medicine for her immune system needed to be adjusted during pregnancy. But she still went on to have a healthy pregnancy and delivery.

So given the miraculous nature of Friend’s pregnancy, it seemed fitting that she went into labor on Christmas morning.

At the age of 31, Friend gave birth to her baby at Northwestern Memorial Hospital around 5 p.m. The baby was a girl weighing in at 4 lbs., 13 oz.

Friend named her newborn Autumn and was beaming with pride while being interviewed by WBBM.

She couldn’t find the words to describe the love she has for Autumn. Friend’s mother and long-term doctor have also shared in the joy surrounding the new baby’s birth.

Back in June, Friend also spoke of her mother on Facebook with the words, “Thank you for ALWAYS supporting me and guiding me with your daily wisdom.

“I pray that I’m able to as a great as a mother and friend as you have been to me.”

According to WGN, there is a success rate between 65% to 75% for a live birth with a mother who has had a liver transplant, which makes Friend’s healthy baby girl after a double transplant even more amazing. Clearly, she was meant to be a mother.
