eBay Seller Receives Heartwarming Letter in Mail from 86-Year-Old Buyer of VCR

Share

As technology improves and new devices are created, old technology becomes outdated.

Matt Shoukry sold his old VCR player on eBay and sent the old device to a man in Phoenix named Don, KTVI reported.

The VCR was not the first device Shoukry has sold on eBay, but it was the first one that resulted in a heartwarming thank you note.

While Shoukry thought he was making a quick $40 sale, the 86-year-old man that bought it was happy beyond words to have the technology in his home.

Don wrote to Shoukry and told him how the VCR allowed him to watch some old tapes and relive some of his favorite memories once again.

“I watched tapes of my retirement party from 25 years ago which I had never seen before,” Don wrote. “Jeez, were we young.”

He also watched videos of family vacations, his wedding, skiing trips and his kids growing up.

Making the situation even more memorable was the fact that Don had never bought anything on eBay before.

Shoukry, who typically gets a rating and review from his buyers and nothing more, was surprised when his girlfriend brought in the handwritten letter from Don.

“It caught my eye because it had a handwritten address on the outside,” Shoukry told KTVI.

Shoukry, who was skeptical at the time of receiving the letter soon changed his mood as he realized that Don was an eBay buyer who was beyond satisfied.

“We read it together and we’re both on the verge of tears reading it,” Shoukry told KTVI.

In the letter Don joked about his inability to get the VCR set up at first, blaming his own operator error for the issues.

While Don had been on a mission to watch his VCR tapes, he is a little saddened to see those family members that are no longer around, evoking some tough memories.

The letter meant so much to Shoukry that he has plans to frame it in his home and put it next to his desk just because it means so much to him.

Shoukry is even going to write a letter back to Don to let him know how much the kind sentiments meant to him.

“I’m going to offer to digitize his videos so he doesn’t have to worry about his tapes degrading,” he said.
