Ex Breaks in, Stabs Mom 12+ Times with Sword Until Teen Son Takes Matters into Own Hands

It’s uncomfortable at best for children to witness their parents fighting. Children should be able to look up to their parents as reliable leaders who model healthy ways to handle conflict.

A 13-year-old boy in Battle Creek, Michigan, experienced a situation involving his parents that was more than uncomfortable. It very well could have been deadly.

A violent attack involving the parents occurred on Jan. 12, but their history indicated prior problems leading up to the worst one.

Two years ago, an assault complaint was filed by the mother against her ex-boyfriend.

She had three children with him. During custody exchanges, the police were called six times because of issues requiring officer intervention.

Anthony Maurice Whitlock, 35, crashed through the door of his ex-girlfriend’s apartment. It was around 2:45 a.m., so the woman and children were asleep.

The noise of the door being knocked down woke up his ex-girlfriend, who was his target. He brought with him a 3-foot-long sword.

The woman got out of bed to check out the noise. She saw her ex with the sword and ran back into her bedroom.

Whitlock attacked her with the sword. Their 13-year-old son woke up and didn’t seem to think twice about defending his mother.

He tried pushing his father away, but it didn’t stop the violence. WZZM reported that the boy may have attempted to use a steak knife to stab Whitlock.

Because of the 13-year-old’s courageous intervention, there were moments his mother was able to attempt an escape.

Police found a trail of blood from the bedroom and headed for the front door.

It was when the boy called 911 that Whitlock ran, leaving his sword behind. He was pulled over 40 minutes later.

Meanwhile, the woman was taken to the hospital. Her index finger and thumb were found on her bedroom floor.

She has remained in critical condition, but likely wouldn’t be alive if it wasn’t for her son. Whitlock is being held at the Calhoun County Jail on charges of home invasion and assault with intent to murder.

None of the children were harmed. According to WWMT, Battle Creek Police Detective Sgt. Todd Elliott spoke of the 13-year-old and mother as he stated, “He very well could have saved her life.”
