Feral Momma Dog Viciously Protects Pups, Rescuer Refuses To Give Up on Her
Devoted moms deserve our admiration for a lifetime. They’ll do absolutely anything to protect, nurture, and support their precious kiddos.
We see plenty of human examples — but mothers in the animal kingdom are every bit as committed. Consider the recent story of a feral canine matriarch affectionately nicknamed Lady Blue.
According to Michigan-based animal rescue organization The Devoted Barn, the term “feral” can apply to any dog or cat that has been without human companionship for the majority of its life. Abandonment or extended neglect can sometimes result in this troubling scenario.
The Devoted Barn explains that feral dogs often display a deep-seated fear of human beings. But Lady Blue, who had been living on her own in the wild, had even more reason to be apprehensive.
Technically, she had 10 reasons. That’s how many tiny puppies Lady Blue had brought into this world, when she gave birth alone in a ditch.
The compassionate team at Cause-N-Dog Rescue in Snow Hill, North Carolina, received a call about Lady Blue and her babies. People in the community had seen the protective mama pooch, but she never let anyone come close to her precious family.
The empathetic Cause-N-Dog female volunteer had an especially challenging time trying to bring this closely bonded group indoors, where they would be protected from hungry predators and the unpredictable elements. Lady Blue growled and barked menacingly, whenever her good Samaritan came near.
This caring mama canine was finally treated to a big plate of moist dog food, while rescuers rounded up her wee pups. Once Lady Blue’s offspring were safely loaded into a nearby van, she eventually hopped in herself — then nervously hopped right back out again, over and over.
But even after numerous failed attempts, the patient rescuer wouldn’t give up on this courageous canine. Lady Blue was eventually lured into a kennel, when a few of her treasured babies were gently placed on top as an incentive.
Once back at the rescue, this amazingly loyal mother nursed and nurtured her sweet babies constantly. And every single one was eventually adopted — except for Lady Blue herself.
Now rescuers have doubled down on their efforts to get this bold and beautiful canine the adoring home she deserves. They’ve posted a video on their Facebook page, to commemorate Lady Blue’s one year rescue anniversary.
Lady Blue is also currently featured on the Cause-N-Dog Rescue website. Her profile notes that she’s a shy yet loving canine, who’s especially well-behaved on a leash.
These persevering rescuers have earned applause across social media. Here’s hoping their video gets even more likes and shares, so Lady Blue can find a loving human family that will treat her like a queen for life.
