Four Puppies Dumped in Middle of Night Just Yards from Rescue Center

Share

Animal rescue organizations exist to help thousands of abandoned and neglected pets in need. Community shelters are staffed with volunteers and animal specialists who optimize existing resources to support as many deserving canines and cats as humanly possible.

But in order for this work to have its maximum impact, pet owners and guardians need to do their part too. Helpless animals can’t fend for themselves when they’re simply dumped in the frozen streets — literally, within mere feet of a shelter facility’s front door.

That’s exactly what happened recently in the seaside town of Brighton, England.

Authorities found four tiny abandoned puppies overcome with cold in a chilly Sussex gateway; all within easy carrying distance of the local RSPCA on Braypool Lane.

Alarmed local residents alerted the facility when they discovered the four young canines. According to observers, the emaciated group appeared to consist of one collie and three lurcher hounds.

The fourth puppy, one of the lurcher hounds, was buried beneath a pile of sawdust and had already died. The remaining three dogs were curled into a tight, desperate huddle for warmth.

RSPCA officer Julie Parsons rushed to the scene, and whisked the remaining pups to a local vet. She told news outlets that each one appeared to be no more than 12 weeks old; and that all were suffering from parvovirus.

This highly contagious ailment mainly affects young unvaccinated puppies, and can often set in if they’re overly stressed or weaned too early. It frequently proves fatal.

Tragically, that’s exactly how things turned out in this case. Despite rapid medical intervention, two of the surviving puppies were overwhelmed by a combination of their existing ailment and preventable outdoor exposure.

These two young ones succumbed rather quickly, leaving the remaining collie pup courageously clinging to life. Rescuers named this little fighter Lolly.

But despite a brave battle, things took a turn for the worse. The RSPCA was forced to notify a concerned and outraged social media community that Lolly recently passed away as well.

Now those who fought to save these sweet babies are asking others to join the fight against the reprehensible behavior that led to such a needless loss.

Authorities are seeking information on who might have carelessly abandoned these sick and defenseless creatures in the middle of the night, mere steps from a well-equipped rescue center.

“It looks as though these poor little mites were literally tipped out of a box and left there,” says Parsons. “The fact that they were just up the road from the RSPCA center is just heartbreaking.”

Any tip, large or small, would be tremendously appreciated to assist with identification.

Lolly and those other sweet littermates may have been left to a horrible, possibly avoidable fate — but animal-loving humans can still rally to their symbolic defense, and spare other helpless creatures from a similar outcome.
