Girl on Way to Prom Rushed To ER After Allergy Attack, Nurses Throw Prom for Her at Hospital
A hospital gown isn’t exactly considered a desirable prom dress. But thanks to a team of nurses in Michigan, an unexpected hospital prom turned out okay in the end.
Hannah Christie is a junior at Gladstone High School in Gladstone, Michigan. She was all set to experience her first prom with her date, Calvin Thibeault.
But the evening took a scary turn when the couple sat down to dinner at a local restaurant. Hannah ordered a pesto dish, not knowing she would have a terrible allergic reaction to the pine nuts in the pesto sauce.
The couple never made it to the Gladstone High prom. Instead, they ended up at the emergency room at OSF St. Francis Hospital.
Instead of wearing her lovely prom dress, Hannah found herself donning a hospital gown.
But Hannah was surrounded by a team of nurses and hospital staff that were determined to give her and Calvin the best last-minute hospital prom they could.
The nurses decorated an area of the hospital with festive paper flowers and a sign that read, “PROM 18.” They rounded up some snacks for the teens and played music.
Grinning broadly, the teens posed for a very memorable prom photo. Calvin was still wearing his button-down collared shirt and red tie, while Hannah sported a hospital gown accessorized with medical identification bracelets — very trendy.

Later that night, the party became even more fun when Hannah’s friends and sister arrived. The “after-party” spontaneously happened at the hospital, as caring friends recreated the promenade portion of the event for Hannah and Calvin.
The friends listened to music and danced the night away. According to WLUC-TV, the nursing staff generously let the teens stay until 1:30 am.
Wendy Bratonia, Hannah’s mom, was overjoyed with the love and compassion the nursing staff showed to her daughter.
Bratonia said she was “very happy” with how her daughter’s first prom ended up, in spite of the crazy emergency room visit.
The heartwarming scene happened during National Nurses Week, where nurses showed yet again how amazing they are. Honestly, nurses make the world a better place.
