Grandma Gives Birth to Own Grandson, Says Pregnancy Was 'Just The Valet'
Mother-in-laws often get a bad reputation and are the focus of many jokes. Navigating the relationship between a woman and her mother-in-law can become more difficult when grandbabies become part of the picture.
Of course, there are plenty of supportive, respectful, and loving mothers-in-law who have wonderful relationships with their children and grandchildren.
Kayla Jones’s relationship with her mother-in-law, Patty Resecker, could be classified as such.
Resecker’s son, Cody Jones, married Kayla in 2012. Kayla’s medical history affected her in a new way now that she was in love and wanted to have children.
She went to the OBGYN for the first time at 17 years old. A tumor was discovered in her uterus, and it was removed with concerns that it was cancerous.
The tumor was, in fact, benign, but the partial hysterectomy to remove it meant Kayla could never be pregnant. Since her ovaries were not removed, she still could have biological children.
Once she and her husband were ready to expand their family, they considered adoption and surrogacy.
The surrogate search continued to lead to disappointment until Resecker told the couple she would be her grandchild’s surrogate.
“I kept seeing Cody and Kayla kind of get sad and think, ‘What’s our next step?’ I told Cody and Kayla that I would do it if I can,” she told Inside Edition.
Resecker was in menopause but still underwent tests to find out if she could safely carry her grandchild. Her OBGYN and PCP cleared her, and the first embryo transfer occurred in March 2017.
The news that it had failed was heartbreaking. One of the greatest days of Kayla’s life was around the corner, however, because the next transfer was a success.
Before going to work one day, Resecker left a specimen cup on her porch for her daughter-in-law to pick up so the parents would be the first ones to find out if she is pregnant with their baby. Kayla and Cody tested the urine with a pregnancy test that turned out to be positive!
On Dec. 30, 2017, Kross Allen Jones was born by cesarean section. Resecker told Inside Edition, “It’s their baby; I was just the valet.”
Being the “valet,” in this case, meant “blood draws, intramuscular injections, multiple testing, and nine months of pregnancy,” according to the Creating Baby Jones Facebook page.
There is no doubt baby Kross will ever question the love his grandmother has for him.
Kayla concluded, “They say it takes a village to raise a kid, but in our case it takes a village to get them here…God is good.”
