Grandma Unwraps Squeaky Toys After Death Of Dog. Crying After Family Says Close Eyes
After living a long life, filled with everything from heartwarming happiness to heartbreaking loss, the average senior citizen has learned to embrace a few fundamental truths.
Most grandparents would tell us to work hard at anything we do, for example. They would encourage us to try the best we can and to remain focused on whatever seems right and good.
The average grandparent would also understand that unconditional love doesn’t grow on trees.
It’s the kind of love you only experience from a cherished family member, a dear friend — or perhaps, a faithful animal companion.
Maybe that’s why a recent YouTube video has received upwards of three million views on social media. Posted by user Merri-Lee Stine, it shows a grandmother who has recently lost her dear, sweet, devoted dog.
As she sits on the couch, her family requests she open a series of presents. She carefully examines each one, but you can tell she’s slightly puzzled.
The mystified recipient arranges these gifts in an orderly row on the stool right in front of her, glancing from one to the other. There’s a tiny giraffe, a squeaky miniature lamb, and a stuffed pig that rattles.
“These are hints,” explains a female voice off-camera. “These all have a connection,” she continues, “and these are all a clue to what your main gift is.”
Then the voice asks the assembled family members if there are any guesses, while the camera pans around the room. The grandma’s husband is invited to sit on the couch next to her, since this final gift is apparently intended for both of them.
“I haven’t a clue,” says the perplexed grandmother, looking 100-percent sincere. She’s told to close her eyes — and what happens next is leaving viewers pretty misty-eyed themselves.
A peppy black-and-brown puppy is placed on her lap, and instantly gives her a kiss.
“Hello,” says the astonished grandmother very softly, and her lip begins to quiver as she speechlessly welcomes her brand new friend.
That’s something else our grandparents understand all too well. When feelings of gratitude and joy overwhelm our thankful spirit, mere words cannot do them justice.
