Grown Daughter Gives Stepdad Gift. After Opening Box, 1 Sentence Leaves Him In Tears
What is the best gift you have ever given? Maybe it was something you made by hand or something you picked out specifically for someone else.
Sometimes, though, the best gifts are something that can’t fit inside of a box, instead, they are gifts of the heart.
One 18-year-old daughter had the perfect gift for her stepfather, and it left him in tears.
But first, he had to work for it. He unwraps the box as Makayla sits next to him and asks if he read the note that was attached.
“Yeah, it says ‘you’re as smart as candy,'” her stepdad replies.
“I said ‘you’re as sweet as candy,'” she corrects him. “And the reason you’re as sweet as candy is because all the times that I needed earrings shoved in my ears, who did I go to?” And pointed to her stepdad.
They also confirmed, together, that Makayla wanted him every time she was sick and went to him to help her open things she couldn’t open herself.
Her stepdad opens the box to find … another wrapped box with some candy sprinkled on top of it. He unwraps that box and opens it to reveal yet another box.
The process continues for a few more boxes, the stepfather humoring his stepdaughter the entire time.
“This better be a really small sloth,” he says at one point.
He pulls out box after box until at one point the girl turns to the camera and mouths “last one.” In the last box is a wrapped envelope which her stepdad reads out loud, “Wait, do not open until told to do something.”
And Makayla begins her speech, “You’ve been my dad for over 14 years. I’ve known you since I was five when you met my mom.”
Her stepfather then steps in and tries to tell the whole story, but is stopped by the insistence of his stepdaughter. What she says next, shocked him and moved him to tears.
“Since I’m a grown-a– woman, and I make my own decisions, I was wondering if you would adopt me. Long overdue,” she said, as he unfolded the adoption papers that would officially make Makayla his daughter.
“You’ll always be the number one man in my heart, and I’ll have your last name until someone takes mine.”
The two cry and hug over the adoption papers which her stepdad will have to fill out to complete the process. This just goes to show, that family is truly one of the greatest gifts in life.
