Hundreds of Burly Bikers Gather in Public to Pray for Officer Shot in Line of Duty
On Dec. 21, 2016, a domestic violence call for two Saraland, Alabama, police officers turned tragic.
One of the officers was Jackie Tucker. When she and her partner arrived on the scene, 27-year-old Mathew Blake Richardson began shooting and shot Tucker in the head, Law Officer reported.
According to AL, Richardson took his own life following the incident. The story is heartbreaking, but this was not the end of the line for Officer Tucker.
It’s coming up on two years in December since Officer Tucker was shot, yet the Saraland community continues to surround her with love and support on all sides.
In 2017, Jackie’s husband, Aaron, shared with Fox 10 how much his wife was improving. Aaron is a police officer like his wife and explained how difficult the beginning of this journey was for them.
After a year in the hospital, Jackie was able to return home, though doctors said she may never be able to walk again.
This sweet woman is clearly loved. Earlier this year WKRG reported Jackie was honored as a “Hometown Hero” during the annual Law Enforcement Prayer Luncheon.
And the prayers for this brave woman will only continue. Most recently, a fundraiser for the Tucker family’s medical bills has received a huge response.
On August 25, over 200 bikers attended a public prayer gathering beside the Saraland fire station. The prayer was followed by a fundraiser motorcycle ride.
Allie Stevens, a supporter of Tucker, told the news station, “It is awesome they’re supporting her. She is one of the best officers I ever met.”
“We need to stick together and do the things that help us to raise up from something like this,” bike ride participant and patriot guard Edward Dembo said.
Fundraiser organizer Kendra Todd appeared to be nearly speechless over how much support was shown. “It’s phenomenal,” she said.
According to the event post on Facebook, one of the ride’s sponsors was Life Riders Motorcycle Ministries, a nonprofit organization in Saraland whose tagline is “Riding Toward the Son.”
Our prayers and thoughts are with Officer Tucker and her family as she continues to trek the long road to recovery.
What an amazing community she has around her. No doubt she and her family are blessed by all the love that’s been extended during these past two years.
