Jacksonville business trolls Steelers with a special delivery
If the bitter taste of Sunday’s playoff loss is still lingering in Ben Roethlisberger’s mouth, one Jacksonville business thinks it has a remedy.
But we’re not sure Roethlisberger will think it’s a treat.
Cinotti’s Bakery of Jacksonville sent seven turnovers — in flavors such as apple, blueberry and cherry — to Roethlisberger as a “thank you” for his contributions to the Jaguars’ success this season.
Roethlisberger committed seven turnovers against Jacksonville in the two games between the teams this season.
In a Week 5 matchup, Roethlisberger threw a career-high five interceptions in a 30-9 Jacksonville victory.
In Sunday’s AFC divisional round playoff game, Roethlisberger threw another interception. He also fumbled a ball that was returned for a Jaguars touchdown.
While Roethlisberger’s turnovers certainly played a part in the Steelers’ loss Sunday, the quarterback also did his part to keep his team in the game, throwing for 469 yards and five touchdown passes.
He became the first quarterback in NFL history to throw for five touchdowns in a postseason game and lose.
The bakery posted an announcement of its gift for Roethlisberger, along with an accompanying message, on its Facebook page.
“Dear Big Ben, we wanted to thank you for the amazing season so far,” the post reads. “Beating you this year not once but twice in the Burgh… well that was amazing! We appreciated the turnovers you gave us over our season so in return we wanted you to get a taste of 7 turnovers. So here are our very best apple, blueberry and cherry turnovers! Sincerely, the amazing city of Jacksonville, or as you know it SACKSONVILLE.”
Cinotti’s Bakery, which has been in Jacksonville for more than 60 years, has been producing Jaguars donuts — frosted with the team’s teal color — since the Jaguars qualified for the playoffs.
Turns out the fans in Jacksonville aren’t the only ones having some fun with Pittsburgh’s loss.
Cincinnati Bengals fans have been donating to the Blake Bortles Foundation to show their gratitude to the Jacksonville quarterback for knocking their divisional rivals out of the playoffs.
Cincinnati radio host Mo Egger encouraged listeners to make the donations.
As of midday Tuesday, Bengals fans had donated nearly $5,000 to Bortles’ foundation.
“Fans are at the core of the football experience and it’s truly exciting and rewarding when they band together, regardless of the team they cheer for, to make a positive impact in the lives of others,” Bortles said in a statement. “I greatly appreciate the support displayed by Bengals fans and they should know their support will make a difference.”
