Jerry Lewis' Belongings Set for Auction, Including Engraved Watch from Dean Martin
The memory of beloved comedian Jerry Lewis will always remain in the hearts of his devoted fans. The famed entertainer passed away on Aug. 20, 2017, in Las Vegas.
Las Vegas is gearing up once more to celebrate and honor the late King of Comedy. Dubbed one of Las Vegas’ greatest nightclub performers of all time, it’s fitting that the city would pay tribute to the late entertainer.
Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino will host a public exhibition and live auction of Lewis’ iconic belongings in June. Fans who laughed alongside Lewis for decades will have the chance to see and purchase items seeping with nostalgia and history.
Those eager to own a piece of entertainment history will have the opportunity to bid on some of Lewis’ most famous items. Entertainment memorabilia experts Julien’s Auctions will manage the event.
Among the items up for auction will include wardrobe and prop pieces from one of Lewis’ most famous films, “The Nutty Professor.” A highlighted item is the custom-made tweed burgundy suit Lewis wore in the 1963 film, which is expected to run somewhere between $2,000 and $4,000.
Other Nutty Professor items will be up for purchase, bringing back the laughter and nostalgia that so many people cherished about Lewis. A collection of custom-made funny teeth will be available, as well as Lewis-style reading glasses with painted eyeballs on the lenses.
According to Julien’s Auctions, a “stunning collection of Lewis’ watches” will be available at the auction as well. Each watch tells a story, a moment in time when someone of significance gifted Lewis a beautiful yellow gold watch.
Perhaps the most anticipated watch to bid on is a 14 karat yellow gold Le Coultre watch given to Lewis by Dean Martin. The iconic duo soared to fame in a decade-long run of comedy before famously breaking up in 1956.
After decades of not speaking to one another, the pair eventually reconciled before Martin’s death in 1995. The watch Martin gave to Lewis is engraved with the words, “Jerry My Buddy/ and Pal/ I Love You/ Dino.”
The auction house predicts the historic watch will sell for between $4,000 and $6,000. The lucky winner will have a timepiece unlike any other with its complex, rich history.
Property from the estate of Jerry Lewis is scheduled for auction on June 22. Much like the career of the late performer, the event is sure to leave a lasting mark.
