Jim Kelly Reminds Us All Why We Need Prayer in Our Lives

We all have our heroes. They’re the people who inspire us, and the ones we look up to or turn to when things look bleak.

A hero can be a close friend or family member, or even a celebrity. What makes someone a true hero really boils down to how they live their life.

Authenticity is key. They say patience is a virtue, and honesty is the best policy. Both values are present in the real-life heroes who set examples for those who follow them.

Football legend Jim Kelly is one such hero. But it’s not necessarily his time spent with the Buffalo Bills that makes this man someone worth aspiring after.

While his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame back in 2002 certainly testifies to his athletic abilities, it is Kelly’s more recent successes that make him a truly great.

It’s no secret that Kelly was diagnosed with a form of jaw cancer called squamous cell carcinoma in 2013. Since then his battle has been ongoing.

Anyone who has encountered cancer can relate to Kelly’s struggles. But the former quarterback hasn’t allowed his disease to get the best of him.

Instead, the 58-year-old has remained strong in his faith and upheld a positive outlook on life, which was made apparent when his wife Jill posted a big Jim Kelly double thumbs up to her Instagram account.

“God is faithful!” Jill wrote. Her post was met with a number of “amens” from Kelly’s adoring fans.

The good news photo was shared following Kelly’s most recent oral reconstruction surgery. SBNation reported that Kelly announced he was officially cancer-free in July.

Kelly and his wife are thanking God for seeing them through this time. Kelly even posted about the importance of prayer in his life.

“I needed to read this today after surgery on Tuesday,” Kelly wrote in his caption on Instagram. “We all need prayers in our life, not only when we’re hurting but all the time.”

Inspiring words from a strong man. His faith has not been shaken despite his challenges. He’s a hero and inspiration to us all.
