Kids Cry When Dad Appears at Airport To Join Them on Vacation 8 Years After Parents Separated
Every so often, you run across a social media video that makes it almost impossible to avoid shedding a few tears. But it’s wonderfully rare when those tears are happy and triumphant.
Caring mom Laura Dee recently captured such a video. It was picked up by Newsflare and other media sources, and it’s since gone viral for a heartwarming reason.
That reason centers around a stirring surprise Dee arranged with the help of her ex, Dean Bone. And their kids were the key beneficiaries.
According to Newsflare, Dee and Bone have been separated for eight years. But they’ve since remained on positive terms.
In fact, they normally coordinate schedules so that each parent can take their children on vacation separately. It’s an inspiring sign that they’re working hard to prioritize the needs of 11-year-old Darcie and 9-year-old Callum.
Statistics illustrate that parental separation and divorce can be extremely tough on youngsters, after all. Psychology Today notes that 76 percent of children reported negative effects stemming from a parental split.
Those effects can range from problems at school to substance abuse. According to Psychology Today, they may even include mournful feelings that predispose a child to alarmingly self-destructive behaviors.
But clearly, Dee and her former partner are aware that their particular circumstance could cause their kids occasional distress. So they’ve resolved to remain actively involved and available.
“All we want is to make our children happy. Co-parenting is hard for many people, but we are proud of what we have achieved with bringing our children up,” Dee said.
That list of achievements now includes orchestrating a brilliantly unexpected “gotcha” moment. Bone found a charmingly creative way to join his family as they departed on vacation to the Eastern Mediterranean island of Cyprus.
As Dee explained to Newsflare, young Darcie and Callum thought they would only be accompanied by their mother. But when they arrived at the airport, Mom feigned a bit of directional disorientation to set up the big reveal.
She explained that they’d wound up in the wrong boarding area. Then, as they all shuffled off toward another floor, Callum suddenly noticed his father’s face in the oncoming crowd.
Dad was carrying a cross-body travel bag. At first, the slightly confused kiddos thought this was all some super-strange coincidence.
That’s when Dee brightly announced, “Daddy’s coming with us!” And those beaming youthful smiles dissolved into sobs of overwhelmed joy.
Both Darcie and Callum then enveloped their father in an elated bear hug, wiping away ecstatic tears. Dad, hugging them right back, simply grinned from ear to ear.
Psychology Today reminds all separated and divorced parents that “the impact of divorce for children is within parents’ control.” All adults can choose to actively listen, nurture and engage with their kids.
And as Laura Dee and Dean Bone so beautifully demonstrate, unconditional parental love and support can be communicated along every point in the journey.
