Man Proposes to Girlfriend at Her Father's Grave, Asks Dad's Permission in Letter
Love knows no boundaries and can often take a happy and surprising twist. This is the case for Justin and Meg.
Justin performed one of the most momentous acts of love for his soon-to-be wife, Meg, when he proposed to her at her father’s gravesite, according to HowHeAsked.com.
In a tearful letter to Meg’s dad, Justin asked for permission to marry his daughter, knowing that he would be there to answer his request.
Justin and Meg are college sweethearts with a relationship that developed over time.
“We spent more and more time together,” Meg told HowHeAsked.com. “From the start, Justin always told me that he knew I was the one.”
Meg’s dad developed a rare type of cancer in 2014. This put a strain on the couple’s relationship, but they found their way through it.
“It was so rare that doctors have not found a cure yet,” Meg said. “After my dad was diagnosed, Justin was always there for me whether it was a shoulder to cry on or someone to vent to.
“At the time, I wasn’t the easiest person to get along with. I was confused, angry and in denial. After my dad passed away a year later, things were tough. My dad was my best friend and to him, I was truly his ‘little girl.’
“Justin knew how much my dad meant to me and how difficult it is to experience the big moments in life without him.”
Keeping this in mind, Justin decided to keep Meg’s dad, Gino, involved in the proposal, which would be one of the biggest moments in her life.
To make the proposal as sweet as possible, Justin bought a solar-powered flamingo, Gino’s favorite. He wanted Meg to accompany him and deliver the bird to her father.
On Sept. 7, 2018, they went to see Meg’s father. Meg knew her father was there with her that day after a seeing a sign.
“While I was driving to the cemetery it was pouring rain,” she told HowHeAsked.com. “As soon as I turned into the cemetery IT STOPPED. At that moment, I knew my dad was there with me.
“The grave was decorated beautifully with flowers. In one of the flowers was a letter with a flamingo on it. On the front of the letter, it stated, ‘Dear Gino’ which was my dad’s name.”
Justin beckoned for Meg to open the letter. She soon realized it was written by Justin asking her late dad for his permission to marry her.
The last line of the letter was a tearjerker for Meg as Justin wrote, “I hope you are smiling down on us during this moment … the moment I ask your daughter to be my wife.”
At this very moment, Justin got down on one knee and proposed to Meg.
“(Justin) knew I would want my dad to be a part of it and he made it happy,” Meg told HowHeAsked.com.
“I always wanted a sign from my dad during this moment,” she added. “The rain was the best sign of all.”
Congratulations to Meg and Justin. We wish you a long and happy life together. We just know your dad will be watching down on both of you on your wedding day.
